Highlandcruzer: I am in North Dakota and would be interested in purchasing one of the finished products, when that time comes. Would you please put me on any list you are keeping. I have a 1971 FJ40. Thanks very much.

Noted. Keep in touch. :)

Is someone really contimplating making the soft tops, I would really like another but Eshans are fairly light duty and the fit on mine was poor, but if no one is likely to do it I will buy another one of his. Please let me know, Cheeers, Larry

Update?

I was wondering if there was any progress on duplicating the OEM soft top yet. Hope so. Get R done m8.

Update Photos

Some update photos are attached.

Barry, Christopher was able to get things cleaned up and straightened very nicely.

Scott, in the process we had alot of hands on time so i wans't able to snap as many photos as I had intended.

Material being used is for template use only not the material which is intended to be used for final top design.

:D ^^ Teaser pics

Everything is coming along nicely. :)

Obtaining a full set of factory original frame bows has taken a little bit of work/time. ;)

This past weekend was the first that we've had everything needed to get started on a template. We should have some exciting pictures to share this week/weekend!

We've been spending a fair bit of time going over design/material options. I'm very pleased with how this is coming along. It looks like there will be some improvements over what's currently available.

Also, mass production at a reasonable price, looks very promising for both the fabric and the frames.

Sweet bro! Glad to hear he fixed my junk....and speaking of junk, my old junk is looking pretty good in that photo too! Are you going to paint that soon or leave my primer intact? ;)

I was very impressed with the progressson thus far. Alot of attention is being paid to minor details such as trying to make a very tight fitting top with very few if any creases as well as increased attention to areas of concern from seeing an OEM top, increased reinforcement at windshield frame edges and other specific areas . I foresee a "very" high quality top from the work I have seen thus far.

I will keep everyone posted on both the top and bows as the project progress, as will Scott

I know I would be interested in a top. I saw a photo of the tops from Paki the other day on a thread here and it was really disappointing, can you atleast keep the seams uniform? I mean that guy had one seam off center!!, it looked like a mistake or someone was running out of material. I know we can do better here!:bang:

most every oem top that i have seen has the two seams....but i have just recently seen a one seam OEM top (100% sure OEM) ....it does have to do with material and using up all the material efficiantly...but it does look a bit odd to see it that way...although OEM correct as it turnsout...most would agree with you to have two seams down middle....or....one seam down middle would look really nice....or....seams over the bows like my top has.;)

The original shell we started with last weeknd had the two seems along the top like OEM, we had a few fitment issues so softopguy decided to cut down center and match up one side as shown in photos and then use it as duplicate to re-produce a shell template. It was matched to an OEM top supplied to us graciously by 82cruiser. I was very excited to see the attention to detail like you have described as far as seams go in just the template we started with. I think everyone who has shown interest will be VERY happy with the finished product.

How many Paki tops have you seen in person? You should refrain from making uninformed broad sweeping statements until you are informed. Most people are very happy with Eshan's quality.

Have you decided what type of material is going to be used on the final product? If so, what type of care will be needed to make it last? I live in New Zealand atm, and only get back to the states a month out of the year. So my 40 will be sitting inside a building most of the time. Was concerned about it rotting. Or am I just being nutz. Thanks again for trying to get this project off the ground. Seems like a lot of interest.

If you build it they will come. :steer:
