The Motelmobile (pronounced like Batmobile)
 
Talking to Kevin Bush at the machine shop, trying to decide what to do.

Deep pitting in the head on the exhaust side. The real fix is to do a valve grind. But they do technically seal with just a lap. Waiting on pricing to help decide. Hate dumping a ton of money into a 1FZ-FE. And I want it right, but also the bottom end has 230K miles and it's not a high dollar performance engine so...

Unless that's cleaned up (honestly, replace the valve seats at this point) then it's not going to last very long. That's a *must fix* in my eyes. Last 1FZ I had done it needed I think 5 exhaust seats replaced and nearly half of the valve guides to be right. Something like $1500 8 (?) years ago.

That or abandon the 1fz entirely and LS swap it at this point.

That's the biggest hold up, my whole theory with this has been run the 1FZ a few more years then LS swap it. But I don't wanna dump absurd money into it before then.

But I also have a grand in brand new
Parts I just ordered in my garage. So...
 
Got pricing from the machine shop, don't expect to have to replace any seats. Should grind out. Not as expensive as I expected. So I told them to go ahead and do a full valve job

I've long needed something smaller (and more conveniently maneuverable) than my 6x16 tandem axle, something in the 4-5x6-8 foot range, with enough capacity to carry an engine or transmission, or (preferably) both, but everything I found was too expensive and no one had a used one to sell me.

Obviously, this one needs a few welds to back up the bolted connections, maybe a few doublers here and there, not to mention a floor and sideboards, but the price was right. The delivery price was stupidly expensive - $380 plus $85 for liftgate serve (not that I think that would have been needed), so I have to schlep it home from the store...when it gets there.

Show up with all your stuff you want to add to the trailer and do it in the NT parking lot! Call it “white glove” acceptance if management or staff asks what you’re doing. I believe in you!
 
Well as per usual, my wrenching is coming down to the wire before a wheeling trip.

I'd been waiting to touch anything on my 1FZ until I got the head back from the machine shop and could install it and pressure wash the block before doing any seal replacement.

After discovering I won't have my head until next week, my trip is on June 13th, I figured I better do some stuff preemptively.

I also realized I needed to do all the timing cover crap before the head went on anyways. Which means also doing the rest main and pans. So my plan was flawed anyhow.

So I finally have made progress on my engine.
Timing set replaced, timing cover resealed, pans resealed, rear main replaced. All that's left is the oil cooler and then top end stuff once I get the head back. Well also the oil pump o ring once it arrives at the dealer. And slap the balancer back on.

I'm gonna be at Windrock, in the 80, the same weekend as GSMTR. Bachelor party for a buddy. They're all headed up Friday morning. I've considered coming in Thursday to hang out with everyone at GSMTR but don't really wanna pay registration for 1 night. So we'll see.
