Aliexpress is clutch for connectors. Shipping takes forever though. I incorrectly ordered three female connectors (didn't notice the ad defaulted to female and the picture showed both male and female) when I needed males. Waited a month, got the wrong connectors. Now I'm two weeks into waiting for the correct male connectors. Meh. First world problems.

I thought I'd ordered male and female connectors because that's all I'd seen, just make showed up. All I need so worked out fine

Quick run to LKQ during lunch, found the correct 2 pin connector on a Tundra tcase.

Then found an entire LP8" harness in an FJ Cruiser that the e locker was already missing out of.

So worthwhile trip!

Unfortunately didn't find a hazard switch to use for a CDL switch. So if anyone has an extra hazard switch laying around they'd like to sell let me know!

Did you look for a 4x4 Tacoma or Tundra? Their swtiches have the same size image on them. Different switch, but you can make a hazard into a locked C/D with one.

Good to know! Every tundra/tacoma I had come across the interior had been gutted already. But I'll keep an eye out!

And the new axle is in!

Discovered some absolutely destroyed radius arm bushings, so why replace, when I can just scavenge slightly better ones off the rolling chassis in my backyard. So swapped both radius arms and panhard bar off the rolling chassis onto the 80.

She's trussed, armored, and gusseted. And the E-locker diff is plopped in.

I leave for Moab Sept. 11, hoping to have this done by tomorrow and my trailer wheel bearings replaced so I just have little stuff to tie up next weekend and pack.

Replaced the AC evaporator and expansion valve last week. Stuck a new drier on it today with oil for the evaporator and drier.

Went to my buddies work to use their fancy AC machine. Used it to charge the 80 a couple months ago. Worked great. Then that weekend the AC would intermittently make this awful noise, then go away. Only did it with the AC on. Then the belt broke, figured it was because it was older than dirt and as crunchy as a tortilla chip.

Now the AC machine struggled to charge the 80, only got like 75% of a charge in. And the compressor started making that bad noise again. But now it's all the time. Sounds like either the compressor or the compressor clutch is dying. Unfortunate because that's a denso compressor that's only been on a couple years.

So driving home from work, I was playing around turning the AC on and off. And sometimes it comes on and will be silent. That will last a few minutes then it sounds awful. Then you'll turn it off and back on again and it might last 20 seconds. It's very strange. It's not a belt squeal. It sounds like either the clutch is dying or the compressor itself. But unsure how either of those could intermittently be silent.

Just replace the whole thing man, compressor with clutch. Even if you use a cheap unit from rock auto, it'll work for a few years. It would be best if you replaced the expansion valve/orifice tube and flush as well, but do it.

I put a whole kit on my f550 last year, condenser, dryer, compressor and orifice tube for like $250. Bottom of the barrel. Figured if I get one trip to gsmtr it'd be worth every penny, but it's been a year and a half so far, no issues and cold air.

Give it a shot if you're resource constrained and save the oe one as a core if you want.

^ 2nd this.

I replaced almost everything in my 80 a few years ago and even if it gives up anytime soon it was worth it. I really like Toyota parts when I can but most of that stuff I used was from Rock Auto with Denso when it was an option.

Yeah at this point I've replaced the condenser, evaporator, expansion valve, and drier(2x), in the past few months. And every O-ring.
Replaced the high pressure discharge hose in high school with an oem Toyota one.

I'd bought the denso compressor in high school too and never installed it. Guy I sold it to. Ever installed it. And then finally my buddy Jacob installed it a couple years ago when he owned it.

Now that I've learned the Denso compressors only have a 12mo warranty. I'll probably get the cheapest compressor on rock auto. No sense in spending up for no benefit. And I'll buy a 3rd $7 drier lol

Unfortunately I leave for Moab a week from today so I'll probably be switching my priorities to making my windows all work. Since I already have those parts. That'll be my AC!

Do an inspection of the lines at least. Despite the new parts you've put on recently, if the compressor s*** itself and put material into the lines, putting a new compressor on won't fix all the issues. I'd say flush the system at a minimum.

Think of it like a camshaft got wiped and you only changed the cam, but metal went through the oil pump and everywhere else. If you changed just the cam, everything else would **** itself in short order due to contamination.

Yeah I'm not convinced the compressor died internally, the sound sounds like it might be the clutch itself. When I just had the evaporator out I didn't see any metal in it or the expansion valve. And the noise had occurred before then, just less often. So hopefully it's clean internally. That being said if I do need to flush the AC system, not fully certain how to do that.

Eric J installed the cheapest ebay compressor and clutch and it lasted 10+ years before it died.
I installed a RockAuto denso unit 12 years ago along with expansion valve and drier. The Denso was twice the price of the offbrands but I have ice cold air conditioning even today.

My Cruiser was struggling to start and watching the Victron shunt and it was clear that the alternator wasn't charging like it used to. I purchased a new reman AC delco Jaguar alternator from RockAuto and installed it over the weekend. The jag alternator is a drop in replacement but needs some trimming to fit. Both the mounting ears and plug are identical to Toyota.

Trimming this point allows enough swing to get the belts on. I also installed a helicoil in the bottom unthreaded mount position to reuse the original M8 bolt.

The new alternator is charging the battery at 14.4V compared to 13.3V of the old one.

While I was in there, I installed new battery terminals.

Big thanks to Shaun @angerhater for offering to help and Kurt @ Neslrac for hosting and helping get this winch installed before Logan’s Run. Kurt did win this winch for me so it was only right to make him put it on. This has been the last option I have been wanting on the Beast to make Logan’s truck complete.

We had a great Sunday afternoon to get this installed and if we didn’t have what we needed, Kurt had it. I really did assist but tried to stay out of their way. Thanks again guys!!

Now if I can get Izzy to teach me how to use to help people. I don’t think Logan’s truck will ever need it. :bounce2::bounce:

@lt1fire Al, I finally put that bumper to use that you sent me. We didn’t have the time to complete any of the parts install you sent but Kurt has so kindly offered to host me again.
