That rotor pretty chewed up you can probably take it down to O'Reilly's and and see if they can put it on a brake lethe to clean it up. Chances Are by the time they get it smooth you'll be below minimum spec it's going to be close.
That rotor will eat a set a new pads in no time if you use it in that condition.

This is the piston

I tried to reassemble it just so I’d have transportation by putting the old pad off the outside on the inside and a new pad on the outside but I can’t get the brake claw looking thing over those pads and the rotor.

Smart move. FYI Their Eclipse series calipers are awesome and cheap. You'll pay at least as much for the rebuild kits and pistons from Toyota. Take off, put on. Simple and fast...except for the bleeding! I can get you the item #'s if you want. Call me.

you have a seriously frozen piston there... time to rebuild or replace the calipers

I'm about to rebuild mine on the LS430 with all new yota hardware, pads, rotors and do SS lines at the same time.

Yup. Time for new rotor, caliper, and pads

As mentioned napa eclipse line is nice. Come painted but not loaded. Fair price after core and often bear same oe castings. Rebuild is not worth it at their price.

Dont get a cheap ass chinese rotor. 80 is too heavy. Buy a brembo blank or something quality. Maybe rock auto still has on the cheap.

Have you ever considered a yj :D ?

i would just replace the caliber. i wouldn't mess with a rebuild. make sure you flush out all the brakes fluid as well.

I have eclipse calipers on the front of the 80, and one on the DS rear, so now I’ll be matching all the way around.

As far as the rotor goes, I had read that Napa had good rotors. That’s what I have on the front.

When you say flush the brake fluid are you talking about the entire car?

Yes, start with the passenger rear then go driver rear then go passenger front then go driver front. Pump out the fluid until it comes out clear. keep adding fluid to the reservoir so it doesn't run empty as you're pumping out the fluid

Buy yourself a cheap turkey baster and use that to pull all of the old fluid from the reservoir before you start. Fill with good clean fluid and all you have to pump out is the old fluid in the lines.

No pics but the Sequoia 150 amp alternator upgrade got done Saturday. Got the brackets and harness kit from Photoman. Kit was top notch and went in easily. The main difficulty was from not being able to see s***e in there while doing it. The 80 is back to life and running like a champ. Only pic I took was when I finished. Trying to remember why I even bother wearing gloves.

Lol. I helped install a lift kit on a rusty 4runner on Sunday. When I got home my face was a darker and different shade of brown.

When I had a lot of brake issues a couple months ago bleeding my brakes we used close to two gallons of brake fluid between the shop and me. So my system should be clean.

I usually go through about a quart when I change the fluid out every 3-5 years

Well I decided to assemble my throwout bearing for the 4-speed tonight and I think I ruined it. I used a rubber mallet to hit the bearing onto the retainer. I wasn’t sure how far it was supposed to go on, I looked for pictures but couldn’t find any. This is the result, and the bearing is very hard to turn now.

Well on the bright side, I got the clutch installed. It’s just a matter of buying the bolts for the transmission to bellhousing(they are the same disband pitch as an 80 series caliper bolts I discovered) and bolting things together if the throwout bearing is sorted.

The clutch is one I got from Downey that is some sort of Chevota something, it has LUK stamped on the pressure plate.

Time for a new bearing. They just clip on the arm, has be manipulated a little bit to get over the edge but no Hammer required.

So you’re gonna throw that one out? Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

So the bearing isn’t pressed onto the bearing hub at all?
