looks good Dusty, I'd heat shield the hell out of the MAF sensor as heat soaking during short stops could really whack pout the initial readings on start up.

BTW, I've got a housing coming in with the 3.25" hose end at both ends so I can do something similar.

Great point. Hadn't thought about that. I will put together something. this would be a good place some thick turbo wrap

almost done
all is welded, painted, heat shilded.
still hooking up the BOV (anyone know what the above bosch BOV has that electricl hook up for)
making bracket for the catch cans. (going to use the flashlight)

Hi

This is awesome. I have been looking for turbo stuff for 1fz-fe. Here it all is. I have been reading for the last hour. Still lots to go through.

Good on ya dusty for having a go and congrats on the results.

finished last pm. she runs a little smoother. Right now running the same 6psi and she feels good. started first turn. ran her hard down the highway this am. the 37" swampers dont help with testing as they dont instill confidence above 75mph. I need to borrow lextremes wheels for a few days.

Give her a couple/few days to break in and will start cranking the boost. I need to figure out the wideband so I can data log. need more time in day....

will post some pics later

That motor looks "doctor'ed" to me............

hahaha, yea it does! looks as if he buried his scrubs up near the windshield wiper motor behind the air filter. :D

Dusty, killer job man! Can't wait to hear some dyno numbers before and after you start cranking up the PSI.:cheers:

And the great part is that if I kill her nobody will sue me. But I know she may implode so I baught a used yj last night as a backup wheeler

Soon friend.

I can't wait, Dusty, can you sort of record the increments of boost and how the wideband responds at each increment? Thanks man, excellent work, again!!!:cheers::cheers:

I dont know jack about the software or how to use it but will learn and am planning on generating some maps plotting a/f ratios vs rpm at diff boost pressures. Then to dyno and add hp to the graph

You already have yours turbo so why dont you throw some maps up here

Cool, I'm really looking to learn about WOT operation only so if say the AFR is 10.8 after a long WOT run at 8psi, then 11.3 at WOT at 9 psi, etc. I'm hoping the trend trends that way, IOW, by about 10 to 10.5 psi, I'm hoping we see nothing leaner than about 12.6 AFR.

I've already listed all my readings at 8psi and I'll get going sooner or later on cranking the boost too. I just think that you will get to 10psi before I do and while I'm a worry wort about it, yer gonna go hellfire to you see the thing lean out. What will take me twelve months will take you twelve days!

Thats the plan-Find out where the line is. The problem is that as soon as the line is found it will need to be crossed = more money and time.

My wife would probably be gleefull if this truck burned to the ground. I've already heard a little mumbling about our trip next week to utah in the 80.

Got the wideband setup going yet? Interested in seeing some numbers! The Logworks software is cake to learn, so no excuses.

I've bumped mine to 6psi and couldn't be happier. A little more fine tuning and I think it will be time to hit the dyno.

hahaha, well, as long as you aren't sleeping in the garage i guess you still have some wiggle room ;)

I put some hwy miles on her this weekend. Running so nice. Im planning to wideband on the way to utah-lots of hills and wide open hwy. Wife is gunna be pissed...But hey I took a day vacation and we're going to visit her sis (and go wheeling he he)

I need help with the adjustable wastegate controller. Do i take the hose on the side of the wastegate straight to the controller and then go from the controller to the hose on the top of the wastegate?

Also. do I take the nipple on the BOV to the intake manifold after the throttlebody?

Thats right and my favorite line is "at leaste you know where I am at night"

My kids love the 80. They say "Yea we get to take the big landcruiser" (vs the sissy little 100)

If you are using a Manual boost controller, the top nipple on the wastegate vents to atmosphere.
Go from the intake manifold or turbo nipple into the MBC, then out of the MBC and into the bottom of the external wastegate. If you dont vent the top of the wastegate to atmosphere you will be running all the boost that your turbo can put out. The top nipple if for electronic boost controllers that run a "closed loop".

Also, vacume is not nessecary to open the BOV. Mine is being controlled by the turbo nipple and it works great.

I see people go from pre throttle body to bov but I read also to do like Rick said and go post tbody (vacume) to bov which made sence when I read it but cant remember now.

Thanks for the help with the wastegate but that cant be right as to do it that way will only limit the signal and wont bleed it anywhere

I'd stick to the vacuum on this one. You want that BOV to open as soon as poosible when the throttle plate is closed. On MSGGrunt's truck there was an ungodly hammering of the intake plumbing and a loss of braking until the turbo spooled down. Now that the BOV is installed all is good.
