Does anyone know if a 4.6 V8 out of a 2013 Tundra would fit in an 80 series ? I know the 5.7 doesn't fit. So does anyone know if the 4.6 is smaller?

you know what does fit, the 6.2L Ls engines. its about the only thing worth considering swapping.
Yesssss plus a 6l80

Since it has a shorter stroke, the 4.6 has a lower deck height on the block. So it should be a little shorter and slightly narrower. I have a 5.7 and a 5.0L in the garage... This week, I will try to get you an idea on the height/width difference as the 5.0 is similarly shorter.

OK thanks

I knew the 4.7 fit, just not sure if the 4.6 was the same size or if they used a different block

I'm not a 4.6 expert, but I have a 5.7 & seen a few 4.6 underhoods & that beauty cover seems about as wide.

They are both dohc heads each side - I would say I like the 4.6 > 4.7 2uz if it's timing chain'd.

I have parked my Tundra next to my 80 & put ~hr into measuring to make a 'demon lovechild' because damn if I don't love the 3ur. I can't recall ever 'needing' to floor it, I bet I only use 75% of throttle travel honestly.

The bummer is when you get back to the transfer case - LH bias driveshafts.
So above & beyond wiring & firing, you have the opportunity to mate a different case to the stock trans if you want the 6sp auto.

I'd want the 6sp after having it, switching over to manual mode lets you hold gears so you don't hunt when towing (or trails) - but if you want to have the display for gear now you need a Tundra/200/Sequoia cluster too. And the shifter.

Thanks for the first hand info

The block is different, the deck height is lower, thus the heads sit lower and slightly more inboard.

It will be sweet if the t-case adapter from the A750F in the 100 Series will allow a connection to the A760F used behind the 4.6L.

I hear the starters in the UR V8s are even worse to change than the UZ ones.

Also I’ve had both the 4.6 and the 5.7 and honestly thy 4.6 scoots. Not a huge noticeable difference between the two

By the #'s the 4.6 claims 300+ HP, couldn't find a TQ curve right off but I believe it.

Since the 4.6 is a de-stroked 5.7 3UR, I'm going to venture it's a timing chain then, yes?

If so, whatever the engine code this seems like a honey of a motor if we can make it fit 80 framerails / SA oilpan / trans & TC (also a cluster / shifter for the 2 boxes).

Off the cuff, I wonder if 2UZ harnesses fit this 4.6 so we don't need to re-invent the wheel of that, or if they are all VVTI motors where despite being in same model years they aren't same-same animals?

--Just dropping some questions / mental roadblocks (IMO) for guys like you who had a 4.6 & maybe had their 5.7 3UR side-by-side in the driveway.

I’d be surprised if the UZ harness worked on the UR. Visually the URs look more complex.

But yeah all the URs are timing chain.

Yeah I would not think the 2UZ harness would be even close on the 4.6L it has D4S, dual VVT-iE, etc. All things that didn't exist when the 2UZ was developed.

It was a hope.

Damn, sucks the 4.6 is as far ahead as the 5.7 3UR - it would have been nice.

And too easy.
