I'll aim for ~6:30pm

Barrio at 6:30pm on a Friday. Bad idea 😂

@mtn biker were in the room on the left in the far back towards distillery.

So Barrio is starting to not work. Some suggestions Old Chicago on Campbell and Glen, Boston's Arizona pavilions, Rockabilly grill off of Oracle, Outlaw saloon on roger, or midtown tavern

Allow me to offer up another suggestion: the Mercado San Agustin, which is just west of the interstate on Congress. Selling points: Seis Kitchen (food), walk-up bar at Agustin Kitchen (drinks), big open courtyard seating with tables for up to 8 folks, and directly to the east is a large, dirt parking lot. The line at Seis can be busy around dinner time, but the food service is pretty quick. The drinks at Agustin Kitchen are not particularly cheap, but I figure it would be OK for someone to bring a cooler and have a few cold ones in the parking lot (?).

I haven't attended a meeting yet so, admittedly, I don't know the vibe. I assume we want to a park together, check out the rigs, grab food as people like, sit/chat, etc. This location is shamefully convenient to where I live (and there's an FJ55 parked less than a mile away; anyone know the owner?).

Two other possibilities:
Dragoon Brewing Co., off Grant Road; food trucks some nights, ample parking
Borderlands Brewing Co., downtown; parking is more challenging unless we arrive early, but nice gathering space and usually a food truck present.

Looking forward to cooler temps and finally getting to participate in the group.

Cheers,
Jonathan

@DesertFlyFish borderlands would be a pain to find parking, especially on a Friday. Dragoon’s would be better, since it’s like a warehouse and has parking. St August would be ok, but not sure anyone outside of me and you would be down to hammer road sodas in the parking lot, but there is WestBound nearby as well..

That pig belongs to some cool Indian dude that is open to selling from the right price, it’s well cared for and he got extensive work done on it over the time he’s owned it. I spoke with him a few months ago but forgot his name

I totally agree about Borderlands! Parking is a major pain.

Thanks for the info about the purple/white pig. She's a beaut.

There is basically no convenient parking at Barrio, mercado would be fine. But the big problem is is getting a place to sit. I've heard a lot about dragoon but the only bar that I have frequently been to was Barrio

This is helpful, given I don't have a sense of the group dynamic yet. I do some event planning for my job, so parking, seating, ambiance, etc.--these are all details I'm used to pondering.

What about geographic location? I lean west/southwest and downtown. Central is OK. We almost never venture to the far east side (once every few months) or Oro Valley/north of River.

Do folks have preferences?

I'd be happy to cook up a few more options, assuming I'm not overstepping.

please do. The other day i say a new place called Whiskey Roads on Ina where the old Macaroni Grill used to be across from Foothills Mall.

Options/ideas for consideration:

NORTH
Serial Grillers at 1970 W River Rd- OK parking; ample seating; strip mall vibe, good/unhealthy food and diverse beer selection

CENTRAL
Brother John's BBQ at 1801 N Stone Ave- really ample parking; stand-alone building; I haven't been in, but interior photos indicate good seating and reviews of food and drinks are pretty good

EAST
Calle Tepa Mexican Street Grill & Bar at 6151 E Broadway Blvd- OK parking (probably the least good on this list); strip mall vibe, excellent food and laid back atmosphere; good seating

ODDBALL, EAST-CENTRAL
Summit Hut at 5251 E Speedway Blvd- Not a food joint, obviously; good parking; owners' 40 is parked inside the store; they regularly have drinks during evening events, so maybe it's possible for something creative to happen in partnership with the shop (?). Maybe a longer-term option to consider.

Previously offered option, Mercado San Agustin, could still be good. If folks arrive slightly before 6:00 pm (straight from work is best for me, so earlier the better), snagging a long table (bench seating) in the courtyard should be pretty doable.

Plenty of time to keep thinking on this! Clearly I'm focused on work today. ;)

I have a new wiring harness that I need to put into Uma (my 69 Fj40) I have had it for a while I just need to do it. Is there any one in the Tucson area that has done a wiring harness that would like to help me do a whole conversion. I have no idea how long it is going to take. It is NOT a painless kit. It is how ever a 14 circuit kit which is better then my factory 6 circuit kit. In return I would also be willing to come over and help with any future project on your rigs, as sort as a time exchange.

On a different note @DesertFlyFish any of those venue ideas sound good to me.

My vote for a meeting place is somewhere with an outdoor patio where we can eat and drink outside and see the vehicles...
Brother Johns has a good patio but I would prefer something even more central.

Craft at Speedway & Swan or Crave on Broadway (next to Mongolian BBQ) now has beer and wine. Both have outdoor seating and reasonable parking.

I think a monthly reminder of when the next meet and where it will be held would be helpful to current and potential or new members. I know a standard was set for the 3rd Friday each month but that post is long buried now. I wish I had the bandwidth to help with organization right now but I think it’s going to be a few months with 4 kids under 3 to take care of. I think all the suggested locations should be given a shot, pick a new place each month and if one is really a hit it could be recurring!

My 2 cents, Serial Grillers, Summit Hut, or Whiskey Roads. But lets keep it on the 4th Friday of every month, what about moving the time back from 6:30 to 7, or does that make it more complicated since maybe more people will be out getting drinks and what not. @Wilma83 thanks for that insight. I rarely go out and when i do it usually is somewhere my wife wants to go and my only experience is basically going to our meetings for CSC

Links for menus are a good place to lobby for a venue (at least in my and the wife's world). ;)
