Triple locked?

I have gotten quotes from both Cruiser Outfitters and Slee to install ARB or E Locker in the front. Quotes were $2,400-$2,600

Just my front and rear lockers alone plus an 80 series switch was more than $2500. So imma say no, that doesn’t unclude labor.

Thanks for the thread and input, I just pulled the rear diff to send to Zuk, but waiting for packing materials. I pulled the front axles today to replace and realized I'm 80% of the way to have the front diff out, might as well send that one off to him too. It's turned into one of those "while you're in there" jobs at this point.

Lock in this order: CDL then add Rear then add front. Others have covered it but want to explicitly state it. They’ve also covered the appropriate situations to use front/rear lockers.

CDL should be locked in all moderate or worse off-road/4wd situations except sand where you can use it at your discretion. Lock on road in snow greater than 8” with no exposed pavement. If you leave the CDL unlocked you essentially have AWD rather than 4wd.

someone mentioned 4wd Action (now 4wd 24/7) has good videos on YouTube about lockers. Check out Ronny Dahl too.

My Land Cruiser 200 has ATRAC, but I did add front/Rear ARB lockers as well. Mostly did use it there, where winching was not possible, and the Atrac system didnt was able to use the momentum. Would never have been able to leave an closed andean mountain pass without.

Was not my best idea, to try it either. Too force it uphill with speed - is not very nice to the car as well.

Too in deep mud it is helpful, if you have muddies mounted - near not stoppable.

Optional helpful for rare moments, helps not to read the toyota manual for the right setup of the built in stuff. Most drivers would not (ab)use their modern toyota for such stuff, will not need it even for harder backcountry trips.

The lockers let me do severall stupid stuff - which arent really necessary even on a extended trip like a transafrica or travelling in south america.

Surfy

I'm going to be triple locked soon in my 2002 LC, I was planning to use this knob to keep a nice factory look. Instaling e-lockers,

RR = rear locker engaged, (what does RR stand for anyway?)

RR FR = front and rear locker engaged?

So I have no way to just lock the front without the back being locked, is that correct?

If so, that's a hell of a deal. I'd pay that right now. The hardware itself for two diffs is $2000. Installation is normally another ~$1k per axle.

I just got this all quoted out going through the forum member Zuk, his labor is $250 per axel, and lockers are around $1100 a piece for Harrop/Eaton e-lockers. With shipping both ways to him in AZ will be in just over $3k, total.

Your assumptions are correct. First stop is to lock the rear, second stop locks both. The front can't be locked independently with that switch.

Correct

RR is Real Robustamente, FR is Front Robustamente. Toyota went with latin themed terminology

RRaaaaarrrrgh and FRaaaaaarrrrgh

definitely going the dial route when I add an Eaton to the front of my 98

If you use that switch, you are limited the way you describe, see diagram in link below. If you want full control of front (FR=FRont) or rear (RR=ReaR), you could do "CDL" pushbuttons as discussed here:

What I would like to know is whether two hazard switches can fit side by side in the rotary dial location. Is it a "double switch-width" hole?

That's a good point. You could also install a separate switch somewhere as a simple on/off to interrupt signal to the rear locker.

Hey.. I absolutely love the job that Zuk did on my front 3rd Harrop installation. Here's a story about the installation in the link below.

The Harrop already comes with a switch. Though it is too big to fit in slots.

I already have LSD in the rear that amazingly still works. I will most likely get Zuk to do the rear next year to have front and rear Harrops.

Here's an on off switch that I added. I plan to continue to lock the front independently from the rear.
