I’m in the middle of doing the same thing. Did you scrub the covers at all before you put them in the washing machine with OxiClean?

I didn’t but I doubt it would hurt! I did spray some Shout on them before washing. I made sure to use a slower spin speed and less heat, just to be safe

Y’all SOR makes a great bolt/push rod holder.

Oh bugger!
I'm afraid budget priced tools ain't worth it. Ya need a Sidchrome socket set...guaranteed for life👍🏻
I guess it's Snap On for guys over there, hey.
Keep at it mate, you're doing great!

Brand new Husky 3/8” breaker bar... I guess I’ll step up to 1/2”.

Yep! Definitely need a good quality 1/2" socket set mate. You're probably applying at least 150ft/lbs of torque to crack the head bolts free.
Snap On, or Bahco are good also, often find them on sale.
I've got a 1/2" Bahco set, made in Sweden, I find it to be excellent quality, and the feel of the ratchet drive is so smooth 😀

I already have a full 3/8” set of sockets and picked up a 3/8” torque wrench last night. That’ll give me the torque requirements for rebuilding the engine but obviously not for breaking it down. 🙈 Lesson learned. One of these days it’d be nice to upgrade!

Yeah, I hear ya mate...quality tools ain't cheap!
So are you just gonna get a 1/2" breaker bar and the required sockets? I guess that's the cheapest option, unless you can borrow from a mate.

Went ahead and bought them. I’m blessed/cursed with a Home Depot, harbor fright, and an O’Reilly all very close by. The bolts are out! Think I could return my cheater bars to HD? 🤔

Yep, you should really have a 1/2” set up. Makes a huge difference when it’s needed....like 4x4, or a locker.
Engine dismantling and suspension work are not 3/8 territory.

Nice work!
Yeah, give the return a try, just tell em you didn't need it, coz while you were out purchasing it, a mate who was helping you managed to finish the job!
Nah...you'll be needing it again...I guarantee i😂

The bolts are out! Anyone in Seattle want to help lift tonight? 😉

For anyone reading this later... you want a 1/2” breaker bar, a 1/2” socket, and a 2’ long 3/4” steel pipe to break these bolts. You’ll also need a 3” extension to get at the two bolts in the back on the driver’s side (#4 and #8) thanks to the hook.

Haha....yay! Cool bananas, feels good,hey...spinning the spanners on your own rig🤙🏻
Only problem is that it's very addictive!
It can sorta take over ya life....but I reckon it's a whole lot better than blowing time and money at the pub or gambling. 😇
