There is another sst kit on eBay right now. Looks complete.

Edit: I was wrong there are two sets on eBay. Don't see that every day.

Haven't checked my FSM but is this the same SST kit suggested for the A343F?

Jim- great thread, I had to read the whole thing straight through to the end. I picked up an A343F for free (no reverse) from a fellow mud member last weekend and plan on doing this same thing (however not with real time updates on here as you did, not as confident in a successful outcome :p). Strictly as a learning excorise though, since my 97 only has 110k miles on it. I wonder how different the A343F will look from the A440F from the inside.

do you have a picture of the tool that compress the clutches assembly to remove the snap ring?

Let me try and find it in the garage but honestly it was a PVC endcap that I cut out and drilled a hole at the top to run a peice of all thread through so I could compress the springs.

I'm working on a foot pedal device to compress the springs that is much easier that all thread.

Duration, Cost and Tools

Okay, I'm feeling pretty confident about the rebuild so here are the details.

[Timing]
Well all total the rig was down for about three months. With working 50 hours per week and waiting on parts as I found them to be bad, this was the result.
Consolidated; the timing was about 50-65 hours. Keep in mind that this was the first time to rebuild a tranny, this involved: dropping the tranny, disassembly, cleaning, inspection, measurements, and assembly.
After the first rebuild the learning curve going way down resulting in a shorter leadtime. Let's hope it does not happen again.
