SOLD!!

Looking for a GX470 in BLACK!!! Clean title only. With a newborn baby now in the mix and me being a first time father, I want something with more modern safety features. The FJ62 is a tank but there are no airbags/side impact cage/ABS...I know, I sound like a P***y...but that is what fatherhood does. My apologies if this thread is not apropos in the tech section.

More pics here: 1989 Toyota FJ 62 Land Cruiser (FS or would trade for GX470)

Some minor rust on body that I tended to (sanded, applied rust guard, and then OEM Toyota paint that surprisingly matches well). Located in SF.

216k miles. Clean title in hand. Engine got a clean bill of health from Georg at Valley Hybrids
Custom Rear Bumper (Spare + Ladder +hi Jack)
New OEM Spark plugs, New OEM Distrib cap, New (Non OEM) Spark wires, New OEM Rotor.
Custom Rear Bumper (Spare + Ladder +Hi Jack) from 4 Plus ($3k)
Lic. Plate bracket for spare tire with light included (Haven't had time to install it)
* New OEM Spark plugs, New OEM Distrib cap, New Non OEM Spark wires, New OEM Rotor.
* Fresh Oil Change & filter
* New Gas Filter
* 3" OME Lift
* 33's with plenty of tread left
* New Double Din Radio with back up camera (I live in the city!)
* Roof Rack (forgot the brand)
* New front sway bar links made from heavy gauge steel
* Recently serviced thoroughly by Georg at Valley Hybrids. Services done:
1) Front axle knuckle rebuild including front differential oil change. new brake rotors and pads the grand total would come to $1100. Includes new wheelbearings, spindle lock kits and caliper brake hardlines as well.
2) Replacing the side cover would cost $300. (there is still a slight leak).
3) transmission service including a new gasket cleaning the filter and new transmission fluid will cost $70.
4) install customer supplied rear bumper $400.
5) The horn repair costs $100 since it's the worn out brass pin we discussed which requires the removal of the steering wheel.
6) rear differential fluid change and transfer case oil change would be $40 each. At that point we would have changed pretty much all the fluids in the vehicle. New drain plugs in the axles and transfer case $30 total. Toyota has updated the drain plugs to a new design that's trouble free. I'd suggest replacing them.
7) New power steering return hose $100.
8) Oil cooler bypass hose $100 including new OEM coolant.
9) Both sides rear axle seals, clean up brakes and service diff with new brake drum $500

12) Washer bottle lid $10
13) New power telescoping radio ant. fully functional $250

Lets Talk!!

Your FJ62 is nice! I love those, but I am already in my GX with the 4 kids. I understand. Don't worry, you make some different choices when you become a dad. If you raise your kids right, you will hardley be a p***y. Enjoy!

SOLD!! OK, got $$ burning my pocket. Looking for a 2004 with back up cam and ML. Ideally lifted. Colors: Black-White-Silver. I am in SF. Also, major seller's sadness. I actually video'd the buyer driving off with it.

Tough to see her go I'm sure, good luck with the search. If you see one in the San Diego area let me know and I could probably check it out for you.

Cheers!

I would recommend looking for one without the sound system. If you get one without the Navi screen you can upgrade your stereo and many aftermarket units offer cameras and you will have better sound and modern conveniences with a new stereo compared to a 12 year old ML system.

Dang, that is one great idea! I forgone 2003s with navi because making that work with a camera is a PITA! I am an audio snob and know and appreciate ML. But I do realize I can get better. Hmmmm. more decisions. Now, is this SAIS in the 2005+ something I should really be concerned about? Been researching that and I'm not sure if it is just the "victims" of bad SAIS's are just more vocal than someone who didnt run into that. But Blutribal has opened up 2003's which are at a great pricepoint! Thanks

I went aftermarket on the stereo and it puts any stock stereo to shame. Look for non navigation

Mine is an 03

Agreed. Non nav is the way to go, get an 05+ with vvti if you can but all of them are solid, just find the right one.

So no problems with your SAIS? Maybe I should just say forget you Mark L. and go non Nav.

No problems with mine so far, knock on wood. From my searching it seems to be more of a Tundra/100 series problem. Even then it can be fixed with a gm system that is reasonably priced.

trying to lock in a 2006 Black/grey 137k miles. @$11500 after I ship it from the midwest. made an offer, we will see if they accept. My friend had an ES with ML and I would not call this "stock." I have taken OEM stuff out and wired in aftermarket and always had problems with humming and bad grounds. I hear the air suspension is pretty bad/goes bad...so when that day comes, OME for me. And, I am still sad about my LC...It was a bit of an impulse sale, but once my baby hits 7-8 (whenever they are out of the car seat). Going to flip the GX and find another FJ. I have serious sellers remorse now. : ( Hopefully the GX fills the void.

You will never go back to the FJ once you build the GX a bit

So I got the rig and I hope you're right. First mod: Remove the running boards. Roof rail delete. Research cargo racks that will connect to original roof rack holes. The downward spiral begins.
