OK.... I'm interested in doing this same thing so I would like to ask some questions along the way.

Is there any prefernece to using the 5.7 Vortec which I think is a Gen II engine compared to a 6.0 Vortec which I believe is a Gen III. I'm guessing maybe the Gen II is a simpler install. I missed out on a complete 5.7 assembly (E-Bay), but I do see a 6.0 Vortec. I don't want to buy one engine to find out its a real pain in the ass to work with.

Also how do you plan to account for the truck running a manual trans in place of the OEM automatic. Assuming you'll retain the Yota manual and the GM engine orginially came with an automatic?

Then ..how are you going to account for the different tire sizes somehow, which I presume is through an ECM programmer or some type of adapter on the vehicle speed sensor that you'll most likely have to adapt from like Downey?

WOOOOO!
LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!
Great job on the work and on the thread!
Im watching with great interest to see how this comes out! Im really interested to hear how the wiring will be!

Thanks for the info and pics!

Chicago

elbert- I think that the Gen II has just been done more, so harnesses, etc are more readily available... Gen III has been done though.
ECM can be programmed along with correct harness and VSS to run a manual legally (think about trucks w/ NV4500)
Tires/gears are all part of having the ECM programmed.
I'll post this info as I get to it, so fear not.

Chicago- thanks! I've been watching your project as well (I'll still be staying SUA though.)

Still waiting on more parts to get here before I can get too much more done, but today I'm going to try and get the rest of the bay cleaned up and maybe get the Vortec a little shiny as well.

I'll also start removing carpet/etc. for the Damplifier install.. (probably do that tomorrow).

thanks again guys/gals for the good words!

Philos1,

Ok, I'll continue to watch and learn. This is a great resource where we can learn from what others have done and what may or may not have worked out. Plus you can't beat "free" advice:)

Thanks for all the pics and notes on what your doing, and taking the time to answer questions.

No pics today as I really didn't get much done...still waiting for parts:(
Got a cheap pressure washer at OSH today and used that to clean the bay, then rattle-canned the frame rails to keep any rust down.
Tomorrow, I'll either start pulling interior stuff to prep for the Damplifier, or I'll put in my fuel pump (if I have it by tomorrow that is).

till tomorrow gents, philos.

Hey Philos,

Oh s***! You'd think with the crate and all those tie-downs it'd be snug, hopefully nothing's broken... don't forget that there's some extra parts for you to take with it as well, they're in the box if you come by.

so for the rest of "yous guys" got the carpet up in the cargo area, as well as the rear door panels- I then scrubbed all that stuff with soapy water and a bristle brush (you don't really want pics of this right?), Damplifier should be here monday or tuesday and I'll get that in if the other stuff isn't here yet- IE marks kit, harness.

cheers:beer:

Hey Philos1....and Dynosoar.....
I'll try to drop by this week... and Im doigng something ( don't know what but I am) to help out...... I should of offer yah the preasure washer I got...

Dynosoar... Let me know if I can drop by next weekend to weld them seats...

Laters,

Manuchao, no problem. Sunday would be better for me, but I could do it after 2:00 on Saturday.

ARGH!!! still no parts= still no work! bellhousing adapter is en route, as is the harness. Damplifier should be here tomorrow (Tue.), and if the other ish isn't here, I'll do that... at least it'll be something.

stay tuned!

Take some pics of the damplifier install please! Do you plan on going up the firewall with the damplifier or just the floor/doors?

Dylan

sure, will do. I'll probably go up most of the firewall in addition to doors, floor, and rear quarters... I also got some ensolyte foam remnants for pretty cheap, so I'll be using that on top of the Damplifier in certain sections.
I also got some new carpet padding as well (foil backed).

cheers.

So the Damplifier and my Marks kit got here today, but it was pretty late by the time I noticed that I was sent the wrong Marks kit...(560 kit instead of the 371 kit). Hopefully they have the right one in stock and I'm not stuck waiting for months on another one with my rig apart in the driveway...

stay tuned.

Oh, and I found a fuel pump too- Airtex part #E2000 pretty inexpensive ($109.00), lifetime warranty, and available all over the place...

So, still no definate word on the bellhousing adapter- I may be stuck using the chevy flywheel that is drilled for my application and some other stuff that I'm unsure of as yet.

I did get some of the damplifier installed today though. I did the bed, rear quarters, rear doors, and wheel wells. I also put 3/16" Ensolite in the rear quarters and doors on top of the Damplifier, as well as new foil-backed padding under my nasty old carpet.

I can tell right away that this is going to be one of those mods that is SOOOOOOO worth the effort/cash, no more "ping" on the rear quarters- rather, there is now a cool "thud."

pics below, enjoy.

Very nice! I guess this made up my mind whether or not to put the damplifier on the 'inside' of the rear quarters or apply in on the back side of the panel itself. Any idea on how many sq. ft used so far?

Dylan

I ordered 100' and still have a LOT left, probably used about 16 sheets +/-, I guess that's about 30-35 square feet used so far.

skip putting it on the panels, it works best on the metal (source of "problem"), also the secondary material (Ensolite here) really helps with getting the "thud" sound.

Cool, that makes more sence. So the ensolite is more of a padding that goes over the damplifier and under the carpet?

So 30-35 sq. ft has done the rear doors, rear floor, rear quarters and wheel wells? If so that is perfect beacuse I have only purchased 40 ft so far.
This is an awesome project!
