So I got a couple of hours in on the Tootsie Roll today.

Mounted and plumbed the fuel pump (airtex E2000) on the downslope of the frame, just in front of the tank (pics when I can remember to bring the camera).

I'm glad to be in the plumbing and wiring pahse, and should be able to get some good progress this week.

I'll snap somepics tomorrow, if I can remember the camera.

laters!

oh, and nicholastheczar, my wife likes your avatar- something to the effect of "well isn't that the truth."

How are you going to setup a fuel pressue regulator and return line back to the tank?....Oh...I just recall I think I saw two fuel lines on the Vortec engine I just received... One a pressure side and one a return line?

Elbert- Yup. built in.

No work today as I'm a little ready for a break- I put the clutch disk in wrong, so the motor has to come back out... nothing major, just frustrating when I do stupid s*** like that.

I'll get some pics tomorrow, cheers.

My wife was amused by it as well, I think she said the exact same thing! :D

SOOOOOO, the drama continues... after trying three more clutches, I determined that my flywheel must be wrong- and it was. Guy at parts store gave me one for a diesel chevy p/u. we discovered that when I brought my clutch assembly and he said that he had a clutch assembly from a diesel that would work.
so after sending him back into the stock room, he returned with another flywheel that worked- and was labeled for 85-03' chevy p/u. bummer he grabbed the wrong one at the start, I've had this motor in and out so many times, I can almost do it blinfolded!!!!

hopefully we'll be back on track later in the week.

stay tuned!

OK!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

so the clutch FINALLY WORKS!:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

got the motor bolted down again, and started figuring out how to route/place my wiring!

I also got my rams horn manifolds mocked up, and everything is going smoothly for a change.

I'm gonna see if I can get a new(junkyard new, that is) dizzy assembly for cheaper than buying a new cap, rotor, and ignition module as I broke mine (dizzy's still OK) taking the freaking motor out so many times...

as promised, pics. in no particular order- rams horn manifolds, and busted rotor, etc...

Oh yeah, dynosoar even came out for a visit! nice seeing ya again man! hopefully no real rain this week (fingers crossed)...

OHHH DAAANNNMM!
Its really starting to come together for you!
Its looking great!
Aside from the parts dilemas, over all how has this install been?
Youre seriously making it look easy to do!
have you started on any of the wiring yet?

Chicago

Nice job Philos1 !!
Wish I had the time to come by and check it out.
Im out of town this weekend.
Thanks for posting...
Those Ram manifolds look good !!
Laters,

thanks guys!

chicago- yeah, aside from parts it's been pretty straightforward. it'd be a cinch for you to do it.

manuchao- come out whenever you like man, no pressure...

tapage- love my 33s, mostly I'm into exploring/overlanding type stuff, but I could sure use some lower gears and a locker for the rear. only money right? how's the "soft top" on tencha coming?

Looks really good man. Back to your motormounts, why the offset to the driver's side 3/4"? In looking at your picture, it actually looks a bit more. where did you get the motormounts to attach to the steel? Are they just standard ones anyone sells? Let us know how that Howell kit works out as well. In reading I like it better than the Painless.

yeah, it does look like more, but it's only 3/4" (steering makes it look tighter i think)- I made the motor mounts from some plate steel, a vice, a torch, and a BFH. welded the tops to the frame, then welded the gussets in, drilled and mounted the GM mounts (any generic GM cradle-mount will do) to the plates...

plates are 1/4" and gussets are 1/8" WAAAAYYY overkill, but they work.

Motor is offset for clearance and driveline-alignment issues.

I should be able to get on the harness as soon as the rain gives up...

cheers.

yap all is about money .. few more $$$ few less .. I thought with 35" it gonna looks better :D

how's the "soft top" on tencha coming?

O my dear Tencha .. tomorroy I will go and see what happend .. you know the body work garage is other story .. ( long one ) coz you can't do all thing by yourself ..

roof cut is ready tomorrow I will take new pics of the process .. :D

sorry for the hi jack ! ;)

philos1, can you post a picture showing the side of the engine where we can see the distnace between the front of the einge and the radiator?

are you running new OEM "ramshorn" manifolds is so what part number?
Or did you get some from NAPA or somewhere for an old vette or truck?

So I got some more work in today...

put in my junkyard "new" distributor.
started laying out the harness for a rough fit (I'll get all plugged in, then re-route for a clean look when it fires/runs).
mocked up the K&N intake kit- might be too tight, so I'll wait for the hood install to be certain on this one.

Elbert- I'll snap some pics of radiator clearance when it's installed with the fenders, etc over the next few days. Manifolds were $50 each from AA1 auto.com or something- Chinese, but they're good castings and look pretty nice. plus they're brand new.

pics are of the start of wiring and of my fuel pump placement- notice the use of the stock coil mount for the fuel pump:D :D :D dirt-can recycling at it's best.

enjoy.

Not much going with the wiring and plumbing right now. BUT, I did finish the Damplifier install up front. I did up to the end of the carpeting and under the front seating area. I did not do under the rear seat as I had originally planned- if the noise is still bothersome, I'll go back and do it.
I put ensolite over the damplifier in the main section of the doors, as well as where your feet go on the floors/ over the tranny tunnel. I additionally put foil-backed carpet padding over the ensolite on the floor.

everything should be nice and quiet now, and as soon as the rest of my parts are in, I'll have the vortec swap done and driving.

Oh, I also got a tuffy console that I'll put in later...

bottom two pics are of the floor after I cleaned all the s*** off it- old coins and pesos from past trips to baja, some potato chips, fries, lots nad lots of CRAP!

pics below, enjoy!
