I've been working on getting rid of the old funky tint (purple and bubbly) and trying to figure out if I want to retint or not. I like the clear but might like tint..thoughts pics

Personally, I am not a fan of how dark tint looks on these trucks. Clear windows to me look better than dark tint. But without it, these things are like driving around in a terrarium. Sunlight seems to bounce around everywhere in them. Many times, usually right around August, I have considered tinting the windows on mine to keep the heat of North Texas at bay, but I never do it. More laziness and funding than anything I think. They do have clear tint available which might be the best of both worlds for you and probably the way I would go if ever tinting mine. HTH.

I like the old school look of untinted, but hated how much heat it causes so I used clear. They even do the windshield and it cuts the heat drastically but still leaves you clear. Guess its all about preference. I do use small static cling squares to adhere my toll tag and registration sticker so dont mess up the film when I change them out.

@John Staton what clear did you use?

Now that my a/c works and it is actually possible to drive with the windows up I am considering clear also.

I do like the "progressive" tint on the 100 though and may go that route also.

Ceramic, 80% ALL AROUND, WINDSHIELD $495 is how the reciept reads. Was done by Performance tinters out of Conroe TX..they have done my cars for years. They told me it was popular on many classic cars, including doing the windshield. I am happy with it.

Black Limo tint on all windows but the front. The amount of heat it blocks is appalling - and curious eyeballs.
With dark tint it's much safer keeping junk permanently in the cruiser.
Black tint on the rear hatch sucks at night when backing up though. Gotta get superbright led backup lights

My dd has a backup camera and I have kinda grown to like it, my 60 needs a new stereo and I have the led backup lights. hmmmmm- dark tint on the back 3 windows might be the route I take.

Llumar Air 80 on this truck.....front windshield included. 3M Crystalline 70 is better at rejecting heat but double the cost....gives it the blue look as well.

LEXEN 2Ply Ceramic All Windows Precut Tint Kit - High Heat Reduction

We used Lexan Ceramic. About $70 from Amazon. Wife & I put it on in one day. Easy install...but can be tricky. We had to do the back window twice to get it right.

Really helps the A/C ..$70 and we’ve got enough left over to do 3 more cars.

Are there any clear coatings that appear not tinted

I like this. Looks almost factory.

I like this one too. A nice, clear(ish) heat-reducer has been on my to-do list for years now... it’s just that something else always seems to jump ahead of it. If it was my DD it likely would have happened years ago.

All the stock glass in the FJ60's I've seen so far has just been clear. I have see factory glass that had a greenish tint to it on some of the 1970's and 1980's cars.

I run Crystalline 90 on this truck.....it is about as clear as you can get but the heat reduction is not as great with the 90 vs. their 70. The 70 has a little more 'color' to it which helps in the reduction of heat. According to the tint guys....they always ask why I put 90 in my trucks....they 90 is more for windshields in places where you absolutely can not have any colored tint on the windshield.

About the best picture I could find with the Crystalline 90. These trucks have a slight green tint to the glass so most of what you are seeing in this pic is that factory dyed glass.

From my perspective this is a personal taste topic. I went with a medium tint for the following reasons:
1. It keeps the heat down for my dog who is a black lab, read heat sink. After a hike, last thing I want is for her to be cooking in the back.
2. It adds a bit of security when the truck is unattended.
3. Helps protect the interior from uv damage.

In he end, do what you like best and what fits your needs! Nice thing is tint can be removed.

cheers, James

IMO this looks right on a classic truck. But there's no doubt that dark tint is better for wandering eyes and privacy for sleeping.

John, The material does not mess up the rear defroster? Thanks, Mike

Actually have not checked that. Just installed this a month ago. As I purchased this on Amazon there was no mention of this problem in the reviews or the questions.
