Time to make the tire purchase for my 55. I am torn between the 37-12.5 MTR or the 37-13.5 Procomp Xterrain.
I plan to do little road driving, mostly trails with some rocks tossed in here and there. I don't care which one will wear faster cause the truck won't get that much milage. I am looking for a good all over the board tire and like the look of both of these.

Any experience with either? Especially bad experience?

Goebs

I'd go bias ply swamper if I didn't do any appreciable on road driving.

What coast are you on? If you're running eastern trails with mud, water, and moss on them, then I wouldn't bother with either of those tires. MTR's would work about as well as Pep Boys mud terrains. As above, I'd go bias ply Swamper TSL. Those would be your best all-around choice.

If you must have one of those two tires I would get the Procomps for the simple fact that Goodyear is always out of that tire size. Since you don't plan on doing many road miles why not get a bias Swamper product as stated above? I never made it through a wheeling season with radials without destroying at least one. Two years on bias IROKs and no tire issues.

Bias ply swampers will shake your brains out if you plan on doing any road driving, trust me I know. I run the procomps the same size you are wondering about, I love them. Most of the wheeling I do is in mud and sand. They are very nice on the road as well. But for offroad bias swampers are the best in my opinion. I am in the north Houston tx area. Mostly woods, creeks, rivers so its mud and sand, no rocks here.

I like radial Swampers for the mix you're talking about. I've got the 37" radial IROK's and they're a great trail tire with good road characteristics. I don't think they're any louder than the MTR's and they're smoother than the X-Terrains on the road.

Procomps

Not, the XTerrains, get the MUD Terrain Pro Comps; they have really tough sidewalls and great traction.

Get the new extreem muds Procomps, 4 for 3 deal, new side wall design, check it out before you decide, I run some on my other cruiser on my fj40 I run the toyo muds, great tire.

I am in the midwest and plan to do some road, trails, mud and some rocks if they get in my way. I have another 40 for the hardcore stuff that has swampers. I was looking for something different as they are aweful in the mud. I have run boggers, bfg mud terrains and krawlers.
I have yet to run the Irocs so they may be an option.

I was looking at the Pitbulls but decided they are topo aggresive for what I plan to run.

Noise won't kill me, but road handling ability is important. The 55 has power to clean the tires and a winch when all else fails.

I've run 35 MTR's for years and they are great for what you want to do with them.

Later,

procraps seem to get destroyed easy. took chunks out of mine ever time wheelin.

not impressed
love my sx's
