Tie rod klunk solved

I just got done installing sag steering on my 77 fj and before I even road tested the system I ended up with the tierod end rotataing and making a klunking noise. After reading some of the post that are in the search section, most came up with the idea of worn tierod ends or bent rods. Since all the rod end and rods themselves were new, this eliminated this theory. My mechanic came up with the idea of loosening the main tierod clamps and making sure that the ball joint shafts were inline with each other. tightened up clamps and problem was solved.

Thanks, I think you just saved me some head scratching, got a klunk and the ends don't seem worn.
 
Hot dawg! I have that very problem. I also have a slightly bent rod. I'll give it a whirl
 
Dave, we talked about this, and you were suppose to tell me if it worked. I take it that this did work (i.e. turning the tie rod end into or out of the tie rod tube a few turns to achieve better tie rod end shaft alignment with tapered female hole).

Jim, I did give you a ring back and you were busy. The problem was not with the relay rod from the box to the passenger tie-rod end , but with the alignment of the balljoints on the rod that goes across the steering knuckles. When the clamps were tightened, the ball joints were not inline with each other. looking down the rod from one end, both threaded shafts should be approx. in line with each other. I loosened the clamps and rotated the joints to line up with each other, tightened, and the rotating kluncking noise went away.
