Three things you love or wish you had about your GX470

The "AC" is selected in the climate menu, and i don't have any warnings or lights indicating something is wrong.

AC issues don't typically have any associated warning lights (I say typically because there's always some fancy and/or oddball car out there somebody will cite). Rather, there are pressure switches in the lines that allow or disallow the compressor to come on. If you are low on freon, said pressure switch will disable the compressor clutch, but there "typically" is no communication to the driver besides the hot, balmy air belching out of the vents.

I've seen threads/posts where guys will get a "Check air conditioning" message on their climate control screen so that's really what I was referring to. I haven't checked the Freon. Just hoping there isn't some leak somewhere that would have drained it in the first place.

And, lo and behold, I now OWN one of the oddball cars out there with AC warnings built in! Boy is my face red...but not from a broken AC... <<<zing!!!>>>

Still getting used to all the bells & whistles lifelong Lexus owners take for granted!

@DSRTRDR the “I Agree” button seems to have been required by the government and it’s in my daughters 2004 Acura MDX navigation as well. So, not just Lexus but a lot of cars with navigation around those years.

Self-locking doors can be disabled as others have stated. I’m sure your Lexus dealer will charge you a good penny to do it!

Those of us with aftermarket windshields should take precautions to ensure ECU is sealed, but for me it rarely rains in Los Angeles.

yeah, it doesn't rain much in southern Arizona, either - but then, hubby went to wash the car . . .

Did "hubby" get sprayed from the windshield or sunroof area? I had water come in from my closed sunroof once in a particularly powerful car wash.

no, hubby washed the GX really good, and that's what got the water through the less-than-ideal window channel into the ECU  - [I have always maintained that car washing is overrated, but does the man listen to me ? nööö ]

Lexus service history record shows hat the PO had numerous instances of "battery dead" in the past few years, which he always got a free replacement on from the dealer because the warranty period on the battery had not expired yet - dealer only took the time to hunt for the draw when I insisted and they had already sprung for two batteries in 3 days for me

mind you, this is the same dealer where the car was bought new and serviced ever since

Likes:
Smooth V8 performance.
Smaller compact size compared to 80/100 series.
Better gas mileage compared to 80/100 series.
Wood trim/heated leather seats/3rd row option.
Lexus/Toyota quality finish.

Dislikes:
No TRD type package/rear locker.
Air bag system/lack of TRD spring option.
Rear door. Should be like 80/100 series.
No center console for storage/arm rest.
Those damn self locking doors.
Would like a sport version where all the chrome trim and wheels are blacked out.

if anybody needs an endorsement on the GX:

I had mentioned in passing that I like the body-style of the GX - so when we had a need for another vehicle, hubby suggested we look for a GX (and not too long after the first-to-us GX, we got a second one . . . 40 + 80 = 120)

and this is the ultimate endorsement: when the choice comes up, hubby selects either GX every single time for any city- and long-distance driving

Yeah, but you need a lower cost independent mechanic to reduce your maintenance and repair bills. Get off the Lexus dealer addiction! Lol

Love:
1. The v8, what an awesome engine
2. Came already lifted with sliders
3. The headroom is great!

Dislike:
1. Got a water leak, passenger side carpet is wet...haven't been able to track that down yet
2. Front cup holders are worthless
3. Despite the great headroom, some extra leg room up front would be nice. Seat doesn't go back far enough for how tall I am

Wet floor, could be clogged sunroof drain hoses, search in here for solutiin.
I'm only 5'9" and the seat still doesn't go back far enough for me. Seat bottom is too short too, hits the center of thighs...

Ok...I agree with this. I'm getting scheel Mann for this very reason soon.

What’s the beef with the auto-locking doors? Mine unlock as soon as I put it in park and they also unlock with the handle from the inside.

We have a BMW that does not unlock the doors when you put it in park. This is a giant PIA, especially with a baby in the back seat. You have to physically push the unlock button to get the doors to unlock. Also, you have to open the rear door handles twice to get them to open from the inside. Ridiculously complicated.

I can't stand the rear door! Would love to have the tail gate design from the Cruiser instead...
Would also love to have the turbo diesel motor that the rest of the world can get...

If I forget to unlock the doors from the inside after parking and walk around to the passenger side to open the doors I have to use the key fob to unlock. There's probably a way to program them, but I haven't look at how to do it.

Love:
-smooth V8 power
-build quality and comfort
-full time AWD w/ locking CDL, manual transfer case

Hate:
-rear door that opens towards the curb (aka backwards)
-smooth V8 fuel consumption (I've made peace with this long ago)
-Nav w/ integrated HVAC that makes putting a modern head unit in so difficult

Oh weird. That is really annoying. All of my doors and the rear gate unlock automatically when I put the transmission in park.

Thanks, I need to get on that. My tent will get in the way a bit, but hopefully I can check those drains out. And I'm 6'4" so you can imagine how I'm feeling. Still, a pretty comfy trunk to drive!
