This is amazing. Sheet metal forming combined with 3D printing (1 Viewer)

This tech has severe limitations in what it can form. Note every part they show is a shallow bowl shape with sweeping organic lines and no crisp, sharp features or vertical walls. The material they are using looks about beer can thickness. This tech is not new, it has been around awhile.

This is a simplified version. The traditional version uses a tool on each side to pinch the material for better definition and thicker material.

This tech is like a Pullmax for a nerdy billionaire. Only the Pullmax is way better.

Hopefully it advances as fast as 3D printing has. Or maybe it has?? Still pretty cool to me, a guy that has no manufacturing experience anyway.

It's interesting tech for sure, but nothing new like they're making it out to be.

Stamped Sheetmetal parts usually have crisp lines and/or vertical walls. It would be hard to find a part simple enough to make using this process.

It isn't going to replace deep drawn cups or anything like that, but it could be very viable for parts like the hood scoop shown. I doubt that such parts would be mass produced with this method as the speed just isn't there compared to a stamping, but this process is perfect for prototyping and fine-tuning the shape.
