I've been busy so it's been a while since this thread's gotten an update. Most of you have seen some of my progress through other threads I've started but I figured I should relay that info here.

The old trail snail is getting primped up for the upcoming Cruise Moab venture. She will be hauling out a 2,000 lb off road camping trailer so she needs to be tip top.

  • Installed my rebuilt *again* rear driveshaft
  • de-rusted & painted my rear bumper & painted my badges

  • rebuilt my front right hub and axle seal after this happened

  • Fixed my issue with the VSS signal not getting to the ECU and Cruise Control Computer Here is me testing it with my homemade ipad oscilloscope.

Things left to do before moab:
  1. Install trailer light harness
  2. renew registration (emissions dyno, wish me luck)
  3. remove, strip and repaint front bumper
  4. rebuild @JohnnyOshow22's extra power steering pump
  5. finish gauge cluster (carbon fiber back board and light boxes)
  6. rework Blue fan clutch (over filled it)
  7. Replace rear heater soft lines
  8. Drain coolant refill with 90/10 (distilled water + water wetter / coolant)
  9. adjust parking brakes
  10. pack and leave
Lots to do!
Better come get that box from me on Friday before I head out for 4 days...

Got my Idle Step Up solution worked out.

Electronic High Idle Retrofit

Its not an adjustable throttle control like the hand throttle, but it does bump the RPM's up a couple hundred revolutions. This gets the alternator's RPM's up to a level where it will produce more voltage. It is triggered by my ARB air compressor switch and I'm very pleased with how it's preforming.

This weekend I will be putting the old snail on the emissions dyno..... Wish me luck!

So I was hoping the emissions guys would be in a jovial mood like they were last time. That time I was joking with them and they barely looked the rig over before putting it on the treadmill. Well saturday I took it in hoping they wouldn't look too hard for the PAIR system... Well they did so I spent saturday putting it back "on".

1...2...3... PAIR!

I also finally caved and had the front windows tinted to 15% and the front windshield got huper optik 50% thermal sheild tint and a 5% brow.

The reason I held off with the front tint was to maintain visibility for night run trails. Well I caved, the heat has started and not having AC forced my hand. I Also ordered some thermal shielding for the floor board but already I am ultra impressed with the heat reduction from just these two changes.

Thhhhhhennnn things started slipping downhill for my bank account.........

It started innocently enough with replacement amber LED's (for my turn signals)

Then I had to order some knuckle cone washers for my high steer arms

And here's the heat shielding stuff

At this point I was about 4 beers in cruising through my 5th so things started to get slightly more expensive;
I was thinking about how ice has always been a PITA so a quick search of affordable true 12v fridges netted this result.......... which I had to have.....

And sure I have dual batteries but what happens if both of those fail then I certainly am going to need a contingency plan...

Shortly after buying the solar kit is about when Caitie came and dragged me away from the keyboard........

Amazing how things snowball out of control. Looks like you do things like me, make a lot of mods the month before a big trip. I like to really push it right up to the day of, that way, it really feels like a vacation. Also, we broke in Moab for you last week so your good to go ! Make sure you hit the brewery and try a porcupine ale.
