I did not plan on reworking the steering box but after looking at it it’s just not right so I got the 4x4 labs mount. I will cut all the stuff off and get it set properly

This makes me want to replace my steering mount. I think that I used an Advanced Adapters mount in the late 1990’s and it has worked well though your new mount looks way more stout! Thanks for sharing.

And just like any project i hit a snag 
So i had bought the 4x4 labs mounts for my Red 40 that is a 71 . I forgot that the 69 has a different frame. The front crossmember is angled on the 69 . ugg So i will order the correct parts tomorrow . I could cut these to fit i think but i will check with 4x4 labs first if i can just get new inner plates . I am very close to saying F it and building the Red 40 and not worry about all the backlash from the Purists 
. But lets see if i can get this project back on track first

I'm no purist by any means, but please keep the 71 stock, especially when you have a perfect builder rig. They are getting so much harder to find in any form of stock condition, especially in that quality.

Well had a bit of a life Snag 
2 weeks ago I injured my back . I knew I was hurt I just didn’t know I was That hurt Ugg . So after 3 days at home I made my way to the immediate care . They took X-rays and basically said you are good to go and take some aspirin 
. The night I was in extreme pain. And got ahold of my DR. . The next day I made it to the DR and in about 5 min she touched my back and said utt ohh. You are going to the ER 
. They got me to the ER and did a emergency MRI ( I was in excruciating pain ) so I was kinda out of it through most all of this . The DR seen the MRI and called in the neurosurgeon. She looked and they Scheduled me for Emergency surgery . Long story short I had 2 disk 1 exploded. And that was all pushing into my Sciatica nerve . The other she was able to clean up with some grinding 
. . Everything went great. I am
Walking . Very slow but I will
Take that . Sore yes but not in pain . So all is good. This will just be a slow and steady. Process. The good News is. I came home today. And had some boxes of parts waiting for me 
. This has given me some time to think and slow things down and take my time and build this how I really want it . I will get Blue back on her feet and ready for this summer. This will let me take my time . Anyways It’s good to be home and get things moving again , even if I am stuck in 4 low for a bit. It’s ok

Thank you funny when i lived in GH you were right up the street. and now i live in EP and you are over here. Back is doing good. very sore. but that is ok . better than not feeling at allMan bummer about the back... And the initial shyt diagnosis

So as i sit and wait My gears keep turning here . So lets talk about this lol. When i got this 40 it had a SBC swap done prior . Easy enough i though just drop in a motor and we are off , well a couple things that i am not to pumped with . 1 it has a TH400 trans. That all good and dandy , but it is long . After looking at this it has the motor moved pretty far forward . I think i can still use mechanical fan. but it will be close . So will probably need a electric fan . This gets me thinking why not go to a different trans ? I would like to keep this 40 a automatic So what are your thoughts on a TH350 ? its several inches shorter . If. i do go this route should i just s*** can the stock 3 speed t-case ? and find a t-case that would be good for a center diff ? What case ? If i keep this case and keep it were its located i do not have to mess with drivelines as i have those already . But i would be able to move the engine back. 1 last thing is the exhaust . As it is now it goes right where i would need to put a upper link mount . I can leave it on springs worst case but that is no fun .

Exhaust is a pita with the front links. The TH350 is a great trans, I'm not sure if it would mate to a dana 300 or something, but that could solve your centered diff issue.
