I was unsuccessful in patching around the fill cap.
Will just park the truck until I have the parts in hand. Then will chip away at install as time allows.

Add on $55 for 8 quarts of SLLC.
Have all the parts.

Radiator install completed, assuming I have no leaks.
About 6 hours out and 3.5 hours in.
Not too many learnings.
Needed a very long 12mm box end to loosen the fluid coupler to fan bracket bolts. That’s the only tool I’d recommend getting ahead of time.
Among several ways to loosen the water pump bolts I chose to wedge some hex keys in empty bolt holes.
I did not take out the bottom hard pipe bolt, but did loosen it as much as possible. I also took the bolts out of the hard pipe going to the heater T to get slack to remove the short rubber elbow on the water housing.
“made” a SST to start the install the lower radiator bolts .
Otherwise it’s just follow the fsm for the water pump, with side trips for the thermostat and fan coupler bracket.

I do wish I had purchased new for the little water hoses that are taken off around the thermostat and water pump. I think it is #1 and #3 water bypass hoses. Oh well.

While I had the bumper cover / grille off, did some work on the bumper install.

Reinforce the grill carrier at the center so it doesn’t sag

Cut down to 3/4” spacing on the right side.

Make a bracket for the winch control box.

All buttoned up. Even made time to flip the Rival sticker on the front of bumper.

New air/fuel sensors and oxygen sensors installed. About two hours.
Front right plug was hard to unplug, harder to replug. Main tools were 22mm combo wrench, Lisle 12390 socket (for hammering on), and the two pound sledge.
A couple hours and mainly drama free. Looking forward to another 240000 miles on the new sensors.

I realized 240000 is a multiple of 120000. Think I’ll do spark plugs and coils next. Going to put in a Pcv valve tomorrow.

Theres base 2 service and base 3 service. 240 is a double witching number.

Pcv valve replaced. Old one barely clicky, new one very clicky. Tried to look as far back in the valley as I could, didn’t see any pink foam, so hoping no valley leak yet.
Last replaced Pcv May 2019. Can’t believe it was already basically not working. After only 25k miles.

What does the full 8/8 set cost? And what do you think the earliest reasonable interval would be? I may just do it at all at 80-90k depending on my schedule and new car purchase.

No rush I'd say, 120K is the service recommendation on the spark plugs ($6/ea)
Coils are probably fine, but I'm already taking them off for the plugs, so why not?, feels like 15 years/240k miles is long enough service life for them ($35/ea)

Finally temporary fit. I’ll need to pull it and add power up there and $100 of arms and mounts to get it more forward and lower. This works for now.

This is one of the many look alike carplay portables. It was $135.

I join CarPlay, then on phone in music app select my amazing Bluetooth source (WiiM mini) that feeds the amps.

Finally got to stretch the guzzler’s legs after a long winter of kid activities.
O2 sensor / fuel sensor and/or a tank of fuel injection cleaner paid off -> saw 15.5 mpg over 200 miles of up and down from prosser to Seattle. With some high winds and 50 miles of wintry mix. Speed limits were 70 or 65 and I was going 5 over. Something worked good and I’m very optimistic that spark plugs and coils will get me into the 16s. Also running a bit better and smoother, though that is hard to prove. For the last couple years I’ve usually seen 13 or 15 (at best) fwy mpg, and never above 12 over hills where downshifting to 4th and 4000 rpm was going on.

Dometic Go system still awesome for water. So convenient and just the right size

New CarPlay portable worked great. I’m going to look for an option with an external microphone to try.

We picked up a Go jug and pump and just did a 7 day, 2k mile trip with it. It’s some well made gear for sure. I agree that the jug is a nice size and while I’m not sure the faucet is any better than my 12$ version I use on my scepter, it is really nice that it is independent of the water source, and the magnetic base is clever.
