Some misc small things.
Put a block off plate behind my bumper light cutout. Block off plate was a leftover part from the rival bumper install.
Installed and Hooked up my reverse light that I stubbed wiring out for 1 year.

Finally mounted the changing room, shower room, toilet room up on the new rack. Had to redrill and cut off the brackets. Getting an itch to add an awning again, still looking for a bomber truly freestanding awning for $500.

Decided to change the Rototrax mount to rivnuts instead of joined threaded bolts, one rivnut locked in, the other didn’t. Will need to reassess and try it again with a better shim.

Put on the new, shorter front bumpstops from Perry Parts. Low mode is back on the menu.
These have a little clearance in Normal, and about 1 1/4" in High.

The longer set worked great, but did contact the arm in all positions. I don't have any seat time yet, will update on ride and impacts as I put a few miles on the rig.

Oil change weekend. Added a 90 degree elbow to the ez drain so that the oil won’t get on the new budbuilt skid. Drains slower but I’ve got nothing but time. No issues getting the filter out thru the front skid.

Put in 5w-30. Was running 0w-30 the last couple years. I doubt it’ll mKe a difference in the pnw. Rarely freezes here.

In other news, the was a light coolant stain on my engine skid. And some blow by on the cosmetic covers. And a nice crust near the thermostat when I think that cover off.

I think my radiator is trying to tell me something!

It has a small hole that weeps under pressure where it is square shaped by the thermostat.

I put some plastic jb weld on it for now. I may have screwed up the bond, was cleaning up and rotated the thermostat and sprayed some warm coolant on it. We’ll see.

Added a total of about 2 liters of premix to the resi and radiator.

Will need to lay in the parts for the coolant refresh kit.

As expected the first epoxy try didn’t set up over the weep. An hour later it was till soft. Scraped it off and resanded and reapplied. Engine now cold so no weep. Expect better performance in this attempt.

2nd attempt worked, but there is an additional weep on the fan shroud side, under the thermostat. The thermostat sits I a square box, who could have seen this coming?
Waiting for truck to cool down so I can try to patch in this hard to reach and impossible to see area.

Fixed the back underside of the thermostat bung. Now leaking out the round side of the bung. So that’ll be four different locations. It’s safe to say the rad is toast. Physical failure of the plastic. I look forward to lots of breaking plastic on removal.

Local Toyota dealer is around $1100 in parts. It’s about 15% more than the online shops, but available before next weekend.

How critical is the $400 in fan pulley, clutch and bearing?

not critical at all. More of a while you’re in there for fun.

F that POS. Cant comment on price though. Probably beats shipping one though.

As far as the other q, do you notice any wobble by eye or strobe? Do you feel your ac kick send any “rough idle” feelings through the bay or cab as it engages or spins up?

Its probably fine if not, but when i do my radiator at 90k, and overhaul pm, ill be replacing everything in there while the rad is out. You know, for fun…

at 239000 miles it was probably a rhetorical question. But if you don’t ask you won’t know. Fan stuff more than the radiator itself.

FWIW.. JB makes a product called Water Weld.. it works even on hot coolant tanks and radiators... been there done that just not on the 200...

but yeah that thing is toast, I would do the fan as well, just because.. and keep your old one as a spare.
YMMV..

Where the jbweld plastic epoxy wasn't setting up was over an active, wet leak. It cures fine if there isn't continuing water presence. Sounds like water weld can also cure in the presence of water/rad fluid?

Yes - last trip we used it to fix a leak in a coolant reservoir tank which was still hot but not under pressure obviously when we fixed it, we just moved it so we could get to the leak while leaving it connected, and with coolant in it.
Worked the rest of the trip (3 days till he got home)

Not a miracle cure but worked and held pressure (~15psi) - that was a fairly small diameter leak however, something larger than a small hole will probably be more iffy...

It's worth carrying with you.

while on the topic of coolant stuff to get you home... also carry a roll of rescue tape with you works on the hoses, just make sure to at least zip tie the ends of it once you wrap it (hose clamps work better) - they have some info on their website about how to use it.

Amazon product ASIN B00AEBKYPG
its another cheap item to get you homes and does work.

New radiator and the associated parts (hoses, thermostat, water pump, full fan kit) $1200 with local taxes

Not bad actually.

that's parts only.

Haha, im sure @tbisaacs wouldnt mind doing the install for fun, he loves messing with the radiator!

JK, unnecessary “expense” for sure but if i were there, id do it for practice for you. Got provably a year before ill do mine and will go all in like you + a few more bits.
