I'd like to put a small amount through a Trapdoor. 10 rounds would be plenty since I have nothing else that takes it. But I believe "Government" is the safest load for it compared to "Springfield". Feel free to educate me if my research is wrong.

What year is the trapdoor? It may be best to load a few rounds with black power. I have some cowboy action loads (lower on the power scale) and I’ll be glad to flip you a few. Let me know next time you are down at the lake
both with AAC can adaptors (for my can), 223.
BP would be ideal out of caution but I'm told I should be fine with the Gov't load for this particular model. I'm looking at an 1886 or 1889 (can't recall) cartouche date on an 1884 model, so near the end of production.

Bought at Gander Outdoors when they had them and they were having a sale. PLUS, if you were a member you saved an additional 10%, which my father was.

Nice @HMP amazing timing and price on that even in '18 - - MSRP is now $3279 on the new PDW version. Good luck finding one for that today! They are going for the upper 4K's on Gun Broker. I was able to find a PDW, but it was labelled as a Gen 1 SP5K, so I think that helped my price be lower than "normal" on GB.
My "surprise" was that I found a SP5L for cheap ($2K). I put up a low-ball offer - wasn't expecting to win it, but I did . . . I know its ugly, but "it is what it is." Will be a good range RIFLE with a real stock, etc.
