Forgot to ask - what case is that?

Looks nice, I just don’t want to pay Pelican $$

Pelican's are also too damn heavy!

Love the company, the product, and perfect for some needs. Like if permanently installing in a vehicle or an exterior situation (motorcycle case, etc.).

I had some conversations with them about tablet covers for kid's products - also too heavy :)

I shot a 45-70 recently at a hanging spinner target that was setup on a sawhorse style rig made of steel tubing and cut joints. The centripetal force when the spinner was hit was enough to lift the sawhorse rig off the ground and send it clattering in pieces. Two shots pulled on that lever gun was enough for me.

That's a man's cartridge for sure! Pretty sure it'd take down most if not all of North American animals you'd be worried about.

Buddy of mine made some handloads for .454 casull to shoot in his hand cannon. was actually very comfortable, and accurate.

Both the 45-70 and 444 will take down anything in the lower 48, at least from what I have read

That particular -no.
But whichever is in your price range you can upgrade as you like.
For the modest price / pretty standard specs - the $$ is there to shoot plenty & change to a M-Lok rail, etc - as time & $$ allows :

I’m a fan of building over off-the-shelf, but that’s a great brand if the platform is newer to you.

But that’s a nice balance between cheap AR’s & the more premium off the shelf like DD, LWRC, etc.
I have it and like it, except for the trigger. I replaced it with a inexpensive ALG trigger and that made a huge difference. This is a cheap upgrade that was a noticeable improvement for accuracy. My other gripe is it dents the brass on the deflection ramp so a buffer spring may help with that. Other than that I have had zero issues. This is a good no frills AR.

We had a piece of AR-500 grade steel (1/4" I believe) on one of the sign-post targets and it punched a hole straight through it. But, so did 30-30, just without as much drama ;)

45/70 is no joke. If I could afford to feed one, it would definitely be in my stable. .44 mag is fun but my sweet spot is for the .41 magnum. Loads can range from hotter than a .44 or tame and easy. I prefer my dragons to breathe fire. target and hunting loads are far from one another In powder count.

I like to shoot my guns. Because of the 444 I don't look at anything 45/70, it's just to much ( on the wallet and shoulder) to shoot often. I have a Henry Big Boy chambered in 357 Mag that will also run 38. This particular rifle is a carbine. It is fun to shoot and with 38 will not break the bank. It'll also take down some good size game if required to and I have a wheel gun that uses the same ammo.

While we're talking about big boys, I love my 458 socom. Even in a buffered platform it still kicks like a mule. Basically a 45/70 in a shorter rifle cartridge.

I need to pick up some more ammo for it to shoot it a little more.

Geebus, 440 grain LOL - Let's see . . can I get that in a PCC . . .

Let's get real - I fired a 44 Mag a couple times, and each time I decided I was a big pussy - - so NO SIR - I'll stick to my "3-round burst" 9mm training - still wouldn't be putting 440g down range, though :)

Similar — buddy’s brother was gifted a 3” barrel .44mag revolver as a wedding present.
I went 3rds before the base thumb joint to the metatarsal started a dull ache / warning sign it was time to quit.
If that means I need to surrender 1 ‘man card’ too, I’m fine w/ that.

Let me add and try to gain some "man cred" back - - if anyone has one of those bear killer AR's with like, what, 454 or 458 (or 500) . . .I'd love to shoot one of those.

Not even remotely meant for bear (wild boar is my thought) - I’m building a AR in 6.8 SPC for a possible move out of WA. —— I hesitate to eat farm pork but wild boar - bring it 😍

Started w/ a 16” Daniel Defense chrome liner pipe - should be a easy shoot & I load 6.8 so I’m not stuck paying .458 Socom rd $$

I know somebody that was building these a few years ago in the mountains if you want the info......crazy when he put the round in my hand, I think it was the .458 socom

9mm and .50 Beowulf. The 50 from an AR wasn’t nearly as bad as I’d expected.

I went to a MG shoot in Woody's several years ago where you could pay to shoot people's weapons if you supplied the ammo/bought theirs. I saw one guy with a .50 Beowulf AR with a lot of takers, and it looked like it didn't kick like a mule without much muzzle flip. Looked like a gradual push with the buffer/spring.

I opted for shooting a piece of history and shot the Thomson submachinegun in .45 ACP. EPIC.

Do you know of anyone with an AR pattern rifle with 6 ARC/.458 SOCOM/.50 Beowulf/6.5 Grendel that could speak on their overall performance compared to each other? From what I can read, the rounds are pushing the limits of the platform's capability. The last thing I'd want is a catastrophic failure and end up as a cautionary tale as to why ________ round is no longer recommended for AR's.

Well - after a lot of input and review, I have decided to "chase" the H&K SP5K-PDW. The B&T APC9K Pro w/ Glock lower is probably the "smarter" choice, but, maybe its next, someday :)

If I could buy two, would be the APC9K Pro, and the regular length SP5, probably in that order.

I found a good lead on the SP5K - someone is selling a PDW (2nd Gen) at the 1st Gen price - not sure they realize they bring more than the 1st Gen, but have confirmed it is the 2nd Gen - we will see.

I'll read through later, but, yeah, Im a fan.
I actually have designed and created my NC gun merch a few years back...still have too many tees in my home office ha
Board of Directors for 5 years at PHA (just dropped off of it recently)
Started and co-ran the shooting team at the school I work at
And am an avid shooter.
Got various pistols, long rifles, and a few tax stamps too.
My favorite is the SP5k that I SBR'd

Its the Land Cruiser of PCC's - - old, stout, great to drive, and expensive :)

You should try a .450 Marlin. It is a short case with similar ballistics but runs through a shorter action. I took an elk at about 100 yards a few years back with one in the form of a BLR lightweight takedown. Guy I was hunting with was watching through binocs and he has never seen anything hit like it was. 450 gr soft point. It literally rolled the bull over

With deer season coming upon us shortly, I thought I’d see if anyone was looking for a handy little .308. Planning on thinning my herd down a bit and will likely part with a Remington 7 in stainless and composite stock. Has a trigger job from an armored in the AMU from Fort Benning a few moons ago.

PM me f you have interest
