That's the issue I'm finding, I tried doing a quick Google of to see which brands are good and the top rated ones were all out of stock. I know nothing about building ARs or anything of the likes, my buddy is trying to get me into it and I like the idea of building one out. Seems like it will be fun. He is also the cause of every rifle I own (good friend to have)

From a quick search PSA seems like they are decent? Ever use their products. My friend has done a good job of getting it in my head that if I'm going to do this, don't use crappy parts/lower tier companies.
Back in November I decided I needed a new AR. I’ve got a bushmaster that’s about 16yo, and works fine, but I wanted some updated hardware, rails, etc. I thought building my own would be a cool project. I still do, and hope to some day. But I wanted the new rifle to be reliable. I was reading some reviews of some tactical rifle courses (here in NC) and apparently a couple of people had issues and couldn’t complete the courses. The common denominator was that those couple of participants had built their own rifles. After reading that, I decided to buy a factory built gun. Will save the project build for another time.
just a thought

A lot of people underestimate just how much abuse weapons can see during shooting courses. I’ve had plenty of broken M4’s and M9’s on some courses I’ve ran, and those were “mil-spec.”

I enjoy building AR’s but I agree that factory built guns are a great option if you don’t have the knowledge or experience to build your own.

I always bring spare rifles and pistols when I go to competitions or any advanced ranges. Also not a bad idea to bring a few spare parts, firing pins, bolts and whatnot.

Speaking of ranges, I need to get my new range toy zeroed and do some functions testing on it.

I don't see myself getting into comp shooting. Definitely sounds fun and looks cool, not sure i have the time to get into it though haha.

I've already started my build so a bit late for that. My friend mentioning building one is the only reason I'll have an AR, they don't excite me and there's a lot of other guns I'd rather just buy before being an AR. In particular an AK.

Don't get me wrong I understand the place of an AR, but I enjoy shooting stuff that makes my shoulder hurt haha.

Going back to your PSA question, I’ve had good luck with them. I do go for their higher end stuff like CHF barrels and better BCG’s so that may be part of it but I’ve never had any issues.

Nice M44, always a crowd pleaser when I bring mine to the range!

Merry Christmas to me :santa: been looking for a way to reasonably carry my Alaskan SuperRedhawk. With it on my hip, I the belt necessary is uncomfortably tight, it’s not a light pistol:rofl: I’m still hoping to check Alaska off my list of states I’ve been to (last 2 are AK and ND) planning on doing 2 wheels if I can get my body well enough to handle the trip. I may trailer to my mom’s house in Spokane WA then 2 wheels for the “good part” and enjoy the visceral aspect of being in the environment.

Part of that is the risk and vulnerability traveling on 2 wheels, from inattentive drivers to people with ill intent or even a grumpy furry animal, I have always liked to be responsible for my own protection. Being on 2 wheels, I’ve tried hip carrying, very challenging for me to develop the steps to properly draw from concealment in any kind of timely manner. I also severely damaged my 25yr old G19 when a clip broke, feeling it slide down my pant leg as I’m trying to pull off the freeway, only to see it hit the pavement as I pulled to the edge of the road, down to under 20mph feeling it would survive that. Yet, before I was able to dismount and retrieve it, run over by a loaded dump truck :frown: I’ve tried boot carrying, better but makes for weak hand draw/firing, not my strong suit but able to train for that somewhat effectively.

Why not chest carry? Been looking at various holsters, kydex holsters, probably would have been the safest/most durable, but...I’m old skool and love leather. This company makes them by hand from the land of Sarah Palin and where I plan to go, why not overpay for some US, hand-made leather goods :hmm: There is a method to my madness...my Henry rifle and Alaskan can use the same round (45 colt) that I can purchase in everything from a “cowboy load” (used in cowboy action shooting matches) to a “bear load” (320g doing 1200fps), making for a simple, mostly 50 state legal to travel with (6 round max, not auto, no mags, etc) and what I traveled with in the Airstream. I also have the dies to reload some personally tuned rounds that I will work up during my training with the holster.

Lot’s of training in my future, only one speed loader pouch, if I need more after 12, I’ve already taken cover to pull from those meant for the Henry other ammo pouch. Super comfortable, good adjustability, loaded it up and ran around the house to see how it felt, super happy with the comfort that will only get better as the leather loosens up on the shoulder strap. Bummed I had to give up my membership to Sir Walter Gun Club, not worth the 3 hour one way trip, the waitlist for my preferred club is looking like at least a year out so I’ll be begging for guest passes and finding public ranges to get my hands used to the set kit

Holster is a perfect fit, retention screw works well and a hammer safety strap, yee haw

The real question will be is how to mount the Henry on my BMW, or considering a sidecar and bringing Tashi, then I’m sure I could find a way to mount it inside a side car. First things first, training, hoping the country opens back up and I can check this trip off my bucket list....

Jerry u look like a man not to mess with. Haha
When ar u planning for Alaska?
I am planning a Canada/Alaska trip next year around mid August- oct time frame.
Having been in the profession I am in I despise talking about guns aka tools. - I was about to start on the rubicon trail a few years ago and some dudes were talking about the exact same set up you are wearing gun and all, for bears and stuff. I was not part of the conversation but overheard the conversation so I simply asked one of the guys- How much training do you have unholstering from your chest? They both stared at me. I walked away.
I plan on bringing bear spray. But I won’t be on two wheels.

The lower is PSA. I don't plan on getting anything PSA for any of the upper parts. Between the knowledge and help @FJ Noob has been and info my buddy has been sending my way this should be a half way decent build and I get to have fun along the way.

Oh yea the M44 is a lot of fun. Closest range to me is an indoor range so it's a lot of fun letting someone thats with me shoot it first so I can see the reaction from everyone with their ARs and what not.

That can happen with an AR, you just need to up the caliber... But, I like where your mind is.
I know that's an option, but there's something special about the older stuff. It might be that I can be happy only shooting 20rounds thru the bolt actions and feel like I've shot compared to mags in an AR and not having that same feeling.

Nothin says welcome to the mid 20th century like the "respect" delivered by a few dozen rounds of 8x57 delivered thru a steel buttplate.

There is a 2 wheeled event on or about the summer solstice in Dawson City where other morons like myself, riding to AK gather for a ride (Not a Rally!) but, again, that all depends upon how the world evolves in the coming months. That's where my brain is shooting for in the moment, surely can be edited as the world opens up (hopefully).

re-training...I'm far from a pro, only shooting as a high (national) level B shooter (some might call a sandbagger to earn a slot), local A shooter in IPSC/USPSA handgun matches. For that game, I practice 2x/week, shot 3-4 matches a month. Simply shifting my brain from using my "race holster" to production one was challenging enough when I was shooting a lot. The biggest shift for me, let alone drawing, will be revolver training as compared to semi-auto and reloading. Dry firing and using the speed loaders before getting to the range should help a lot.

Yes, bear spray for sure, a lot will depend on if Tashi is with me.

A very good resource for planning is called The MILEPOST The MILEPOST - https://themilepost.com getting the most recent version has literally every mile post documented along the highways to get thru the Canadian Rockies and to AK. I've done my planning (2x) using it, makes for knowing fuel/food/camping resources and distances, the most comprehensive I know of for planning a trip to that part of our continent.

This pic keeps popping on facebook, from a conceal carry class whatever....

But every time I see it all I can think of is "I hope they know they are standing on the wrong side of the target". Nowdays with all the brainwashing, you never know....

.223 ammo is now $1 a round. From Russia. If you can find it. Crazy.
Found some brass case Browning .223 for $0.58/rnd at Academy down here in Fayetteville on Wednesday. They also had Winchester M855 for about the same price.
