Happy 2019 everyone!

I’ve decided to get serious about the 62 and really get after some of the maintenance that needs to be done.

I’ve got to do a value adjustment as it hasn’t been done in a while and at least one sounds kind of loud. I’ve never done a value adjustment before so hopefully it’s not to bad.

Next on the list will be a knuckle rebuild as they are in bad shape.

I did change the thermostat and now have it running at proper temp. Who ever installed the last one pitched the top gasket.

Looking for a little advise, so I sold my 200  the other day and now I have a choice the make.

One I can buy a older Sequoia just to drive back and forth to work.

Option two, I can take some of the money from the sale of the 200 and dump it in to my 62 and make it my DD.

I'll be driving it mostly back and forth from work which is about 20 miles each way. I do have a two year old and another on the way but I'm not really worried about them riding in the LC. The only long trips I would take would be our beach trip which we do once a year but there's a chance I would take it anyway. I'm not really worried about the gas as I'm used to horrible gas mileage.

Let me know what you guys think

Throw money at the wagon. Coming from someone who just dumped like 2 grand into their own wagon :flipoff2:

Buy a s***ty honda civic for cheap as a backup if you need it. I daily an 80 (35s) and a 60 (37s) at different times of the year.

As I understand it, you want to keep the 62. From what you have described, it is in DD shape as is. The money you would put into it would be making it more dependable/comfortable. You are going to spend those same dollars eventually on it. Go ahead, do it now and be able to enjoy it. Putting money into something else is just lighting a match to the money and kicking the work on the 62 down the road.

Thanks for the reply's so far!

I'm still talking it over with my wife making sure she understands that I'm going to take about 3k and dump it in to the 62 up front to get it on the road.

If I move forward here is what on my list let me know if I missed anything you guys would do.

Lift OME or tough dog - Any recommendations
Value adjustment
Replace c-chanels in the rear - I've already ordered them
Rear main seal - I'm not looking forward to this at all
Oil pan gasket
Knuckle rebuild
Painting and fighting rust as I go along
Dynamat or some kind of sound control

Thanks Josh

Not much to update here as I'm slowly collecting parts I need. One thing I will need to address is the exhaust system. What options are there or do I just need to have one made? Cats look to be in pretty rough shape and I'm pretty sure the manifold has a leak or a crack.

I ordered mine from rock auto.

Funny, mine is the gray goose.

That’s too funny just the other day at work my boss was telling me about a really clean LC he saw on the way to work and it had gray goose on the license plate, must have been you.

Well between the 40 and work the 62 hasn't been getting much love. However the rear main and or oil pan gasket is leaking so bad now I have no choice but to tackle it! Now the question for the experts. Should I pull the engine and tranny to do the rear main? I know this isn't required but I've read some horror stores about trying to get the tranny to line back up with the engine in. I'm not going to lie I really don't want to pull the motor but if its going to make life easier I will. I just want to get it right so I can start driving her some more. I have no interest in having another LC sit for 5 years while I slowly work on it.

Thanks Josh

So not much progress has been made on the 62 since a bought it a year or so go. Well I've decided that's going to change and I'm go to really ramp up the pace. My 40 has been apart for what seems like forever and I just miss driving an LC. I'm going to do my best to keep the down time to a minimum but for the first part of the project it will be unavoidable. I'll be doing to rear main in the next few weeks. At this time I'll also knock out the lift, all bushings, knuckles, and rear c-cannels. I will clean everything up as I go the best I can. Once again I have no interest in another frame off resto, just a good driver that my family and I can enjoy.

Hope you guys are ready for a ton of questions!

So the first step start which is just a really good hose down of PB blaster. While most everything looks solid everything does have a nice layer of crust on it. I will definitely have to replace or bypass the rear heater lines as they are pretty much gone. Does anyone know where to source them? I put a add up in the classified hoping someone has a set laying around.

So I go started today. The exhaust was shot so that got cut out. I also removed both drive shafts and the shocks in preparation to pull the axles. The rear diff fluid looked like it had been changed yesterday. The front not so much as I need a knuckle rebuild bad.

The PO had sprayed some kinda of under coating on it at some point. I still haven’t decided it this is good or bad but it’s messy for sure. I’ll be getting all the undercoating off and re coat the frame with rust bullet.

The rust isn’t to bad in my opinion but I’m sure others might disagree. The rear heater lines are toast as well as the heat shield between the body and the muffler.
