So I'm only going to be able to work on the 62 about once a week. So my plan for next week is to finish cleaning up the frame and prepare to drop both axles. I'll also be pulling the oil pan and transmission soon. I plan on dropping the trans pan and cleaning the screen. Depending on the color of the fluid I might to a Rodney flush. I'll call @cruiseroutfit sometime next week and place the order for my OME lift and well as a few other things.

Toyota has also come out with a new frame recall that involves coating the inside of the frame so I might look at doing that as well.

Any trick to getting the rear drums off?

If it still doesnt 'cause the shoe wont clear the lip on the inside edge of the drum you might need to take a cutting disc and cut all the way around to get the face of the drum off.

I had some downtime at work this afternoon so I took advantage. I went to work on getting the tie rod ends loose. First, two came off quickly as I had a cheap HF puller. The last two the puller kept sliding off, so I decided to try a pickle fork. I'm pretty sure that tool was put on earth by the devil! After beating on it for what seemed like forever, I gave up and put the HF puller in a vice and closed the gap enough to make it work on the last two.

I also disconnected the front and rear brake lines, so both axles are ready to come out at this point.

Pull that screw off at 6 o’clock and then beat on the drum all the way around it with a big hammer. It’ll come off eventually

I loosened that screw I will get my dead blow mallet and beat on it.

Thanks, everyone

And there off!

Well the rear leaf springs are proving the be very difficult. All the bolts came off but no matter how hard a hit it the front pins won’t release. So today I’ll take a sawzall and cut the pins so I can keep moving forward. I did start cutting rivets so I can remove the rear c channels.

Get a hold of @TRAIL TAILOR and see if he has repair pieces for that rear channel.
I know he has something there. Good quality stuff, it will fit.

I ordered the C-channels from @TRAIL TAILOR they are sitting in the back of the cruiser waiting to be installed! Hopefully, I'll be able to get the old ones out without removing the gas tank.

You can also get a couple screws and screw them in into them hole at the 11 o’clock and 4 o clock position and tighten them down one after the other and it should slowly pull out.

Thanks for the tip, I beat them with a hammer until they finally let go.

Can you point me to more info on this? Is it just for 62s? Sounds big.

Toyota hasn't released everything but its another recall for the Tundra/Tacoma. This one involves coating the inside of the frame to prevent rust. I don't know much about it yet but I'll update once more information is available.

Well, the rear C-channels are really kicking my ass! I was hoping once I got the rivet heads off I would be able to use a air hammer to punch them out well that didn't workout. So after a lot of drilling I was able to get all the rivets out. Even withthe rivets out the c-channel still wouldn’t budge. I ended up taking a cut off wheel and cutting it down the middle once I did that I was able to pry it out with a pry bar.

one down one to go
