hey, that spare steering column was hauled to Moab and wheeled in the back of the truck several years, including my most recent Cruise Moab in 2011 - it's got history that not even some trucks here on MUD have
plus, it puked oil and water all over the trunk of the rental car I picked it up in years ago from legendary Tim Hill

I have a 3F power steering pump, plus 2F crank pulley and waterpump I'm swapping on to my 1F. I even scored a decent, (I hope,) OEM power steering box on ebay for a criminally low amount, only time I ever got a really good deal on ebay without being outbid.
What belt are you planning on using on the power steering belt. I was going to start with a 1F smog pump belt, at least the matching length, but I don't know if the exact placement of the pulley and diameter is the same between the old smog pump and power steering pump. Also any input on the powersteering hoses as you progress would be great info to add to this thread. I'm going to have to get a pressure hose made for mine, and get the right fittings. I haven't found a stock option to reach the OEM FJ-40 steering box location. I bet a 62 series line can be used with the location of the 60 box in this case.

We have a used FJ62 line set, way too long for this application. Will likely use the center of it and the threaded ends, then have hoses crimped on each end.
I tossed a wrench in the works. Have done a few '60 box conversions, kinda have that one down. Had the '60 box mostly fitted, but grabbed an '80 box set it on, it fit. Spent some time figuring why it wouldn't work, it's larger, will require moving the radiator more, doesn't matter, we are moving it and making a custom shroud anyway, the 3FE vane type pump should drive it, etc. So, back in uncharted territory.
The '80 box has a few advantages: Has a "preload assist mechanism" reducing play at the center of travel, helps for the high speed stuff. Has a larger piston, so has more boost, should help with the 35" tires and locked. The pitman arm is flatter for more spring to draglink clearance. Is overall a larger, more robust box.
The setup is cut/clearanced for ether, so if the '80 box doesn't workout, can swap back to the '60 box. Don't see that happening?
Going to need a column. Claudia prefers the stock turn signal, key in the dash, wheel, etc, so, snatched the polished turd out of the rig and beheaded it. Placed it where it has a chance of being reincarnated as a tuna can, manhole cover or something usefull!
