Its got to be hard to find parts in hawaii?

Kinda sorta. The pig specific parts are pretty much impossible, but a lot of stuff is available through Toyota and I have bought some stuff through mud which has helped a lot. Plus Toyota parts interchangeability!

Inside of doors and hood Por-15ed, then painted with spectrum. Hope they turn out nice. I wanna put a generic layer of fabric over the inside door so the linkage isn't showing, but that will be later I think. The spectrum firewall is extremely thick. I had a hard time spreading it around, but the regular spectrum stuff is smooth. It spreads like paint although there are no self-leveling properties, so I'm making sure that it's going on places that aren't really gonna be seen all that much. Oh ya, some POR dripped through onto the window. I gotta remove that.

I hate bondo. Trying to strip the outsides of the doors and the whole outside has been coated with bondo. WTF would cause someone to completely bondo a perfectly flat panel with no dents or defects? They even did the window rails! The stripper doesn't eat through it, although it does soften it up. I'm gonna try to scrape and grind the rest off.

Sorry about that Bondo stuff. That sucks. My fenders were shot full of expanding foam and then bondo'ed and there was even a hole that was filled with a piece of wood and then bondo! Frickin' opposite of awesome. Wanna come to the mainland and do my bodywork and make my driver door shut right? I'll pay with quality beer!

Yeah... mine had steel wool and bondo all over the place... Gotta love bad bodywork on these beast.

Well I'm still priming the doors. The third coat of primer was coming out messed up on some parts, so I only put a third coat on one door. I think the heat from my lamp (it's nighttime here) was drying the paint too fast causing it to take on a cracked look. I'll post some pics tomorrow, then I'll get back to priming and wet sanding.

Had a day of welding today. Nearly finished up the top rails. I just have a few patches to finish up. For the front corners I used 22 gauge simply because it's so much easier to bend. The patches look like crap but I'm not exactly going for showmanship. I have a question for you all...what should I do with the sides i.e. the 3rd picture? I had originally wanted to put windows into that area like an extra cab truck, but I lack the skills to put them in. Instead I was just gonna weld in a big hunk of 16 gauge sheet metal. Any other suggestions on what I could do? Thanks

 where'd ya go??? Got any new pics?

I'm still around and working on it. haha I haven't taken many pics because I'm a little embarrassed of all the rusty, bare metal on it right now. However, that will all be fixed soon. I just finished my welding projects, so now it's all cleaning and painting. I'll take some pics this weekend.

Laguna,

I took a look at the rust underneath my project, I nearly started crying. But then I thought about how much work you put into your project, and I felt better.. (lol)

Keep up the good work

Lee

what's that going to take???

Hopefully, not much more. I think the biggest thing is redoing the rear body mounts because you can see quite easily that there are none. Otherwise, I most likely have to take it to get a reconditioned safety check and then do the registration. It was legal before I did the chop, so I basically have to finish the bed and cab, and then do the rear body mounts. I'm not sure if I'll have to add in a rear top center light on the cab like how modern trucks/SUV's have.

Some updated pics. Painted the interior with por-15 and the roof too. The picture quality is low because I used my iphone. I can't find my good camera. :( Hopefully, I can put sound deadening in tomorrow, after I finish putting the transmission back into my FJ60.

Inspiring!

Inspiring is all I can say. I’ve gone back and looked at all the time and work you’ve got in saving the pig. Heroic Effort!
I’ve in the past felt that spending that kind of time on a project has paid me back in several ways – not the least it’s kept me out of bars where drinking and fighting are the main time burners. Busted knuckles from rusty bolts are way better than busted knuckles from hard heads.
Guess I need to get back out in the driveway and get back after my beast.
Thanks for sharing.

Here's an update: Sound deadening and seats are in, just haven't bolted them down tightly. Painted the rear cab with POR-15. Gotta do the bed and then the rear sill/body mounts, plus mount the doors.
