The Best Engine For The 80 Series Is The 1hdt Diesel

I could be wrong... wouldnt be the 1st time... but... im pretty sure, that in order to import a diesel engine into the U.S. ECONOMICALLY, it has to be 25 years or older. Toyota could in theory import the parts to a diesel motor, and have them assembled here, but there isnt enough of a market for diesels here to make that economically feasible, at least not in half ton p/u or suv form...

The big 3 are in bed with big oil, so do the math on that....

now... also figure in that the entire northeast is heavy into "heating oil" aka "dirty diesel", whereas the rest of the world mainly uses natural gas, propane, wood, or coal....

imagine if half the vehicles in the country started running on diesel... heating fuels would go through the roof, and the gubmint would have to subsidize homeowners as well as big oil...

It doesn't make sense for Toyota to bring the Toyota diesel to the US market for the same reasons why the FJ cruiser is no more.

US regulations on everything from safety to fuel consumption.

From what I've heard Toyota is more focused on 8 and even 12 speed transmissions to achieve the EPA targets set in the coming years. Look to see what they are already doing with the Lexus line...

This is also the reason why the new Nissan diesel is a baby Cummins in the US. Smart idea, to just use a motor that's already GTG in that country.

I hope you buy a dodge and see for yourself. Maybe your cruiser is a bit slow but it will get you there much faster than walking half way after your dodge broke down.
Yeah because the Dodge/Cummins combo has a well known reputation for being unreliable.

Even if the cummins engine in the nissan it's so bad .. you will have tons of support, knowledge and aftermarket to keep it doing what's need to keep working. Might be lowering the prices .. but you still will sell more than if you ( NIssan ) had release some diesel ( or even gasser ) engine

Advanages of 1hdt - 1hdft:
You can go under the water and no problems with spark plug.
You may buy diesel from ships two times cheaper. Also from different trucks and big technic in far away from home.
You can go more then two times far on diesel in offroad.
You can drive up to 39'' without any low range in your diferensials without any problems.
In show and sand you can start go very very carefully without slipping your wheels.
You can easilly bobbing(swing forward and back) event on Atomatic transmision.
Very powerfull on first and last gear. Any hill rise always in hydraulic transformer locked.

Disadvantages:
Rig sounds and works like a tractor.
Oil and filters need to be changed every 5000km.
Very expensive motors and high-pressure fuel pump.
Poore dynamics in comparison with gasoline.
No ability to install gas systems.

Alic, I have a couple questions:

1) I assume your "hydraulic transformer" is what we call a "torque converter"?
2) what do you mean by "poor dynamics compared to a gasoline engine?"

Thanks

may be torque convertor) I dont speak english freely(((
That shuff in AT gear that locks disks and ATcase begins work like a MT on 4th gear. That I mean.

Acceleration for exumple to 100km\h on fzfe is faster then on 1hdt. And almost the same on 1hdft.

Your English just fine. Yes, it's the torque converter you are referring to in the transmission.

Алик, вы делаете хорошие моменты. Что температура на Камчатке сегодня?

Wow!!! Didn't expect such a speech)) It's ok kinda cold)) -20C. 100kn to north -40C.
"The Best Engine for the 80 series 1hdt diesel" have a chance not to start after the night cause of diesel thicken(became parafin). ))))

Where can you locate a 1HDT here in the states?

The argument is irrelevant in the US. US Federal regulations effectively add too much $$$ to the cost of import diesels.

Plus, the idiocy of allowing Kalifornia to dictate fuel standards for the rest of the US pretty much prices diesel out of affordability. So much for that Constitution thingy which is supposed to prevent the states from doing exactly that sort of thing.

So this thread is basically mental masturbation for all the Americans on it.

So getting one here is not easy then? What's my best option then? Prefer to use a Toyota over a Cummins

You can get a JDM imported '91 here (it's over 25 years old, and is therefore exempt) for fairly ridiculous money, but it's cheaper than an engine swap.

I notice you are in California; don't know how that affects the equation.

The 1FZ-FE is an exceptional engine and proprietary to the Land Cruiser model...not understanding why you would need to source unobtanium?

You could try importing a half cut, cruiserparts.net may have some, g&s cruisers might if they still do that, or land cruisers direct might have some contacts. You'd have to check around. SOR might even have some. But it's gonna cost you.

It's going in s 69 so no smog.
Where to look for one?

We have one in a 40series at the shop, guy imported the motor from Australia
