It looks great Rick!
Question: Are those 2x4s running under the rear heater? Why?
Mike - There are no 2x4's under my heater. What you see my hat sitting on is a cedar shelf liner from Lowe's. I also have one cut to fit under my drivers seat. The heater is bolted thru the EPDM mat to the tub of my 40. To put into perspective, the new EPDM mat is basically a rectangle from the rear amby doors to the back of the seats, under it is the radiant barrier blanket insulation cut out around the heater. Thus the insulation is somewhat square with two tabs from where the 40's tub drops down to the back of the seats, "U" shape sort-of in this area. When I get around-to-it, I'm going to cut the thicker rubber mat to fit only the top area of the tub.

Note: The original plan was running the thicker mat just like the EPDM one, and using aluminum spacers to make up the difference between the tub and top of mat at the heater. Thus letting the heater rest about the thicker mat without contact. Being the EPDM membrane looks good and can take the heat, I just used a hole punch and let the mat act as a gasket under the heaters legs. Hence I'm leaving, what was to be a pattern, in-place.

Wow! That was an optical illusion, I bet your 40 has a nice aroma ! I like the roofing membrane method, great idea Rick!

Looks great Rick! Hopefully one of my cruisers will be done soon I can get to a GA Cruiser's meeting to check out your rig.

All of your "afters" are phenomenal. I still plan to use your guy to widen another set of steelies for me.

BTW if you ever decide to pull the rear carpet, use WD-40 to soak the double-sided tape that the PO likely used...it'll make an hours-long project take minutes!

Great truck...great thread!

Good grief.....G-Cat, you told me to use WD-40 on the double sided tape back in December, see post #47. If only I had remembered, I would have saved a few hours worth of cussing & fussing this past weekend. But it's funny, I finally ended up using WD-40 to remove half of the mess.....Go figure.

So , the patterned squares mat is available from Home Depot , in stock ? If so , I'm getting one for mine to stop all the rattles...it's making me half deaf .
Sarge

Sarge - The mat was in stock at our Home Depot. I was going to go with the 3/4" horse stall mat from Tractor Supply, but I thought that was too thick. Also, about a year ago I installed some HD's UltraTouch Radiant barrier, that I had to order and took a day to get.

The old gray carpet that came with my rig is slowing being removed. Last night I cut a piece of my EPDM roofing to replace the carpet under the drivers seat. Now all that is left of the gray carpet is on the tanny hump.....and I'm patiently waiting for Mr. @Racer65 to finish his aftermarket rubber floor mats. Once I get my hands on one, there will be no more carpet in my FJ40.

On the way home from work last Friday, I stopped by ACE and bought a can of School Bus Yellow #17135 spray paint.....

Jack & Jack Rods Before:

After a few coats of the ACE "School Bus Yellow":

Decided the jack rod clips needed a little help as well, so I applied a few coats of Rustoleum Industrial gloss black...these will be installed with a few stainless steel M6's from my kit.

Thanks to @Racer65, "Needle in a Hay Stack found!" Received the L200 duct below to replace that nagging aftermarket heater hose eye-sore!

Below is a Side by Side comparison of what was on my rig vs what is now installed......Really, there is no comparison at all! But, you make do with what you have at the time, till you can source the correct parts and pieces. Bring on Old Man Winter! Now I should be able to move about twice as much air thru my heater box than previous winters. At least in theory that is..... :hillbilly:

Being this is hard plastic, if I had the CAD package for a 3D printer, I'd draft this little jewel up!

Used same paint on my jack and rods.....................looking great BTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Changed out the rear U-joints for some OEM Toyota units.

Went by ACE on Saturday morning, and the shine of the stainless steel M6x1.00x16mm screws caught my eye. So I bought 30 of them along with the fender and lock washers, replaced my rear door hardware.

My 930 Vessel #3 Megadora JIS screw driver made short work of those screws, and with no fear to waller out any of the phillip heads.

Feeling like Fall is in the air, spent some time outside with the 40 & my Yoder. Had to smoke a few racks before I headed to a UGA football game party Saturday afternoon.

That smoker looks to be pretty serious how many racks can u do at one time? I can do about 3 on my BGE knockoff.

Serious smoker, yes. That is 418 pounds of 10-gauge steel from Hutchinson, Kansas. It is a Yoder YS640 pellet grill, and I can smoke about 7 racks on the lower grates, and a few more on the upper. Probably about 10 racks if I wanted.

With a freshman in college and a freshman in high school, my son's football is now Thursday nights (Freshman Football) and Friday nights (Varsity Football). That gives me Saturday's for deer hunting and trout fishing with my son and the 40.
