I could use a brighter display on my '78. Couple other little things first though. @ginmtb that display looks great!

Hey GA Architect, I noticed in one of your posts showing a side pic of your 40 that the mirrors has what appeared to be a black gasket surrounding the mount. My '77 has a hard plastic spacer about 1/16' thick behind my mirrors that are the exact same shape as the mount and do not extend past the mirror base. These are factory original. Did you source an after market gasket?

BTW, Very nice work on your 40

Thanks for the kind words.

Alrighty, here ya go. It took me a while to find this mat, as it has been a long discontinued part. I called and called and called, with no sales person finding one. So I gave up for a while, then on a whim, I called another distributor on the west coast about the part. They said they had two. I asked if they could verify if it had the Toyota Logo, and it did. He said there were only 12 in the USA at that time. So I bought 8 of the units this past Summer. Part number for the Toyota Tundra truck bed mat is PT580-34990......What am I going to do with the other 7 mats? I'll cut some down for runners in the hallway of my office, and use some for rubber mats in my basement.

Oh, my daughter wants one cut for the rear of her '14 FJC. And that reminds me, Wife's 4-Runner's lease came due a few weeks ago, and the below just happen to be traded in about an hour before. It is a '14 FJC, with all the bells and whistles, only 19K miles. Had to have it, got a smoking deal on it, so I bought it!!!

I was a little skeptical when my wife said she wanted an FJ Cruiser but it has turned out to be a great truck... we had to do a bit of searching as, believe it or not, she wanted 4x4 with manual transmission - the transmission was the tough part!

@GA Architect My Dad bought an end of the run 2014 FJ Cruiser in Green. Said he wanted a FJ40 when I was a kid but had lots of expenses back then. He loves mine and having driven them before they are indeed a nice vehicle! Still love my 40 though

Thanks for the info on the mirror gaskets.

About time to give my rig some love'n.....Getting ready for a tune up, oil change & changing the gear oil in all 4 locatons. I'll also be replacing all the old drain & fill plugs with new 90341-18021 allen head magnetic plugs on both diffs, transmission and the transfer case. Along with the new allen head plugs, all steel units (diffs & tranny) get steel gaskets (12157-10010) and the aluinum T-case will get the auminum gaskets (90430-A0003).

I'll also install one of these RockAuto specials.

And why aren't these numbers good for my 1980? Crap, now I have to look it up myself.

I'm trusting what I've read.....and they should work on your '80 FJ40, unless you have other parts.

You can take what most regard as..... “A CHORE” and turn it into just the coolest of projects! ;)
*What gear oil you usin?

And share with me this "resource" for part numbers ...that have decent photos or figures

Well, I am almost certain the new allen head plugs will work. Here it is up against a diff plug and the tranny/t-case plug.

I used them on my 78' in all 4 places. I sourced mine from Georg. I'm running 70 series axles, H55F and 62 series split case. They were all the same size .
