@HemiAlex i get your point on rebuild costs, the 2F ain’t gonna be cheap, and I have no doubt you’ll do this deal budget style while also doing it right, but I dunno man … what I’m paying for the 2F rebuild is like 50% of what I’m seeing core 12HTs go for. At best. And trust me I’ve looked (we can all dream!) I know timing is everything and you spent some time looking - you’re not in it for “market value” and that’s a huge bonus starting off this undertaking. Kudos on that. Same/similar situation with me and the spare 2F I got (shout out to a guy who’s not on Mud anymore).

I’ll say this - if I could get a brushed up 12HT in my truck for the cost of my 2F rebuild I would absolutely be doing that. This is me taking friendly umbrage with you cost analysis haha.

I’m only making the point that rebuild for a rebuild, they cost about the same.

The cores are different worlds. But, refreshing a 2F would be easy for me and take me all the miles I could ever want to go.

I just didn’t want to rebuild the 2F and in the end, make 2F power. I’ve lived it.

Yeah absolutely. Rough cost on just rebuilding - and doing labor ourselves like we do - it’s about apples to apples. But really man, you got the Avenue for going to a 12HT. Do it and never look back!

Christmas in May.

It’s getting more tired and rattly, but it’s still going. 357,000 miles by the end of this trip.

I need to take it down in a few months for a mini resto. Needs drip rail reseal, weather stripping, insulation in the cabin, brakes and lots of odds and ends.

And the diesel and dobinsons MRR.

It still goes everywhere I ask.

1000 miles here, 4 days of trails and 1000 miles back.

Zero issues and I’m not washing it.

Long live the 2F.

He’s awesome. I saw the truck the day he bought it in Texas and I gave it a once over.

We hit Imogene and hung out all week. He’s come a long way.

It’s amazing where he is now.

Swapped out the brake master cylinder today. Moved from an FZJ80 (1" bore) to a mid-80s Supra (15/16" bore). Advics PN BMT105. Soooo much more feel and maintained the stout braking. Must reroute the 60's front brake line out from under the booster to get the length to reach the front port. Definitely the goldilocks MC for the 5th gen front brakes.

Had to count it up...there are 9 different model Toyotas making up this truck now lol.

Keep posting pics man! Its my motivation to finish mine.

The highlight of the trip. I got to walk Travis’ HJ61 up a part of the “easy” trail on Poughkeepsie.

Hint, it wasn’t easy.

I like to imagine I’m as cruiser utilitarian as @Godwin snd @cruiserinsanity

The 60 was the engine hoist transporter, it pulled the 40 to the back yard and also pushed it into the spot with the bull bar.

ARB could learn from me.

357,000 miles. Using some oil, not smoking and running good.

This thread has gotten boring because of how good and solid the truck has been.

The life of a farm truck never ends. Time to do some sketchy stuff.

Drove 3 hour round trip to get a free spare F engine for the 40. The wind slowed me down more than the weight.

Thanks @ERNRAM, your 55 is awesome.

The truck has been together so long and has no issues. So before SAS it got some love.

Front and rear diff fluid changed. No mixing or issues.

Passive fluid exchange in clutch and brakes. Fluid was cooked.

Power steering fluid was maybe 40-60k since I put the 80 box. A little dark but good.

Checked oil. Still great.

Inspected rear brakes. One was right and I just cleaned them up. Was sure I had a stuck liner but it was fine.

Time to pack the truck.

2,600 miles to ouray and back. 13-16.6 mpg depending on whichever way the wind blew.

Zero issues. Kept pace just fine.

I really like the 2F in this truck. 361,000 miles on the original bottom end.

Still needs the 12HT but I want to move into more subtle upgrades

Full insulation, a tuff console since my oem lid finally broke and tint first.

This truck is such a charmer.
