I test drove a 2024 Tacoma Offroad. I've decided it's not for me. On the good side, the turbo four has plenty of power and the transmission seemed very well tuned. I did not find the sound from the turbo to be bothersome at all. But the engine itself is loud when pushed. I found the ride to be on the firm side. The driver's seat was not comfortable for me -- the seating position itself was good, but the seat was not supportive enough for me. I want something quieter and more comfortable.

Edited to add: maybe I would like the Limited better.

How is the back seat space? I know Tacomas are tight, but I’m curious if any improvement a were made for the 4th gen.

I’m somewhat considering moving on from my 100 in the next few years and the Tacoma is pretty high on my list. The only problem is I’ve got a wife and 3 kids I need to be able to squeeze in for the occasional off-roading and camping trips so I think we’d be pretty cramped.

did you try any Taco's with the leather seats? seems like in reviews I've watched people liked them. I have the cloth seats on my TRD Off Road and I don't think they are anything special, but I did drive the truck 2500mi home and wasn't any worse for wear. I would like to lift the seats a little in the rear to reduce the amount of thigh bolster.

back seats are a little tight, like most mid size trucks. as your kids grow up and get taller they may get more uncomfortable for long sits in the back, depending on how tall they get. the only mid size with the best rear seat room is the Honda Ridgeline.

Yep, that’s kinda what I figured. Mine are all 10 through 7 so space isn’t a huge issue, but it will be come one eventually. Space wise, a Tundra makes more sense, but it’s a lot of truck for the right mountain trails in my area.

The 100 really is a sweet spot size wise, but I’m a bit weary of the endless baselining (a.k.a constant maintenance, lol) and abysmal fuel economy.

Mpg wise, just remember that if you go any tire size bigger than stock and start adding off road stuff you’re mpg will drop. How much I guess you will get to figure out🤣
Oh for sure! The new LC250 seems to take a big hit from tires alone. I’m not sure if the 4th gen is the same or not. My goal for whatever my next rig is will be to stay as close to stock as possible. I would only add a low profile bumper to mount a winch, and might step up to a 33” tire.

I think most of us, myself included, get carried away and over build our rigs. We end up with a heavy and thirsty beast that spends 90% of its time on the highway, 9% on fire roads through moderate trails and 1% somewhere we might actually need the accessories.

I installed 285/70-17 (33") tires, a camper-canopy, a rear bumper with swing-outs, and my mileage went from ~20mpg to ~15-16mpg.

My truck is purpose built for long adventures and mild trails. Specifically, it's getting built for Canada and Alaska this summer. I've had it on the New Mexico Backcountry Discovery Route, and a week in Canyonlands. It's continuing to get tweeked as I shake it down. I just installed different springs in the back (more lift), and I have springs for the front along with a front winch bumper. Wheeling solo in Canyonlands without a winch gave me major anxiety.

That’s a good looking build!

I’m getting around 11 mpg with my 100 with ARB front w/ winch, OME 2865’s, Prinsu rack and 285/76r16 Wildpeak AT4’s. I can squeak out 14 mpg cruising back roads at 50-60 mph. I’ve not dared to calculate MPG with the rack loaded, lol 😂
