Cowl primed

Instrument cluster

Painted the instrument cluster while waiting for the body work to get done. Still quite a bit of work needed before the paint gets done. They're about to tackle the cowl section, which will be difficult.

Fuel tank time

I started the clean up on the fuel tank, but after some thought I decided to let the guys at the body shop soda blast it and then I can paint it and re-undercoat the bottom.

28 years of grime, and thats the top which is relatively clean. Actually, it isn't that bad, but I'd like it to look sorted.

Rust repair getting expensive

The cowl section and rear sections are getting the treatment and it's not a very cheap process. I have the Mig welder but not the skill set to do these repairs correctly. As always, the more you look, the more corrosion you find. In any event, these guys are moving on the repairs and I think their work looks correct.

Magnificent build up mate!

My 78-FJ45 has the cowl vent, serves no function as far as i know.

Bib repair

I'm going to make an attempt at repairing the swiss cheese I found on my lower front bib. These things are not cheap unless you want a fiberglass version, so I'm trying to save a few bucks by welding in 2 patches. If you've seen my previous welding work, you understand my hesitation. But what the hell.

New metal

I've measured twice, hopefully I have enough steel to cut once.

That bib area has got to be the most rust-prone area on any 40-series cruiser that's always left out in the weather in a wet-climate (like we have here).

I repaired mine myself ... but I bet your end-result will be better than mine.

I'm greatly impressed by your work so far.
