Talked to the powder coater

about powder coating my OEM steel wheels that have the center caps. I have been debating whether to go with original gray or black. I like both and still can't decide. i told him I don't have the paint code for the gray and don't know how to let him know what color gray to powder coat it. He told me to paint something the color gray I like and bring it to him. How can I do that if i don't know what gray to get to paint something? CCOT has it but you have to put so many parts of this and so many parts of that and add hardener. I own restaurants not body shops.

If you have as many restaurants as you do threads on ih8mud.com you could afford to just pay the powder coater until he gives you what you want.....

From my experience powder coat come in 108 r.a.l. standard colors. The powder coating place should be able to show you what color of grays there are to choose from. Mike

No ultimate answer. If you can get close I'm sure you'll be happy. I'm about to do the same thing will be looking at colors in a week or two. So if you get this done soon and like it, post up all the details.

Man I don't know. i have read some negative things about powder coating just recently. I think i may just paint them and save a few hundred. My question now is I have 5 brand new OEM steel wheels that are primed black from Toyota. if I paint them can I just pain the outside and leave the rest of the rim black primed?

I just sprayed mine with a can of gray that I liked from Home Depot and they look perfect. I just brought in some pictures with me and matched up as close as possible, bought a couple colors that were close and went with the one that looked best. Very easy.

you dont have to use the two part paints a single stage (one part) polyurethane is pretty tough and should do the trick ---and if you paint it is easy to spruce them up when you need to

I used to go on Trails around the Pee Dee river years ago...other than that I don't know....The big problem is just trying to find someone around here to wheel with....I'm not experienced enough to go by myself.....I'd probably end up in the river...

I didnt know you had new black oem rims.....Mine came black too and thats how I left them....I like them...I wouldnt powdercoat rims unless I was only going to Dairy Queen on the weekends...Otherwise they're bound to need touching up some day....

I picked up my 15" stock wheels from the powder coater yesterday. They came black and had em done in the color Atlas uses. Galaxy 3 from Prismatic. I'm happy.....
