The knuckleheads are what make SNT great. Glad you're coming Woooody. :D

I think the "Dog House" was put out of commission after that Saturday night at SNT. Although, it is important to note that Jimmy fixed it enough to DRIVE it back to the bay area on Sunday!!!

he still owes me two rolls of duct tape and i still have two olive jars in the kitchen I had a hard time explaining to the lady

oh - the memories - the memories - and now I am all grown up, bringing the girlfriend and her dog, staying in a hotel, bringing home cooked goulash for the chef contest, and even my beer is now in a brown glass bottle not in a silver and black can,

ummmmm... Last I checked, all of the entries for Sand Chef Comp have to be made on site. No pre-made, brought from home stuff

Ah okay. I guess I will just have some there for everyone to eat. I am not planning on breaking any rules, not even related to cooking.

It will be my first SNT.

Should I bring some lube?

FWIW, I did call the NF fire folks about the closure.

They told me that the dirt road from Lopez Lake to Pozo (30S05) is a NF road and is (will be?) closed. Info: 805-961-5770.

I guess we could still get to Pozo via the paved road from Santa Margarita.

So Jim: what do you want to do? Are you still planning to do the gettogether at Pozo on Sunday or not? If not, other plans?

Thanks Eric but when I called the local Forest Service Office in Santa Maria and talked to the person responsible for this area he told me the road to Pozo would remain open. He's the guy who was locking the gates on the other roads in this area, including Garcia Ridge, Las Chiches, etc.

Obviously, there is some confusion within the Forest Service.

I suggest we wait and see what develops over the weekend. If the OHV trails, ie; Garcia Ridge, Las Chiches, etc. remain closed I'm thinking we will skip the trip to Pozo this year regardless of the status of Hi Mountain road.

I've also talked with the owner of the Pozo Saloon about this.

The conditions can change quickly, usually we are worried the roads will be closed because they are too wet.

Let's just wait and see for now.

Are you doing a raffle? I may bring some goodies if you are.

No, we don't do a raffle at Surf N Turf.

We do have some free prizes and giveaways thanks to the support of a few vendors.

We don't collect money or sell tickets. (The Poker Run is it's own deal where money is pooled and split between the winners.)

New this year, we're doing a 5K fun run (walk) on the beach Saturday morning. It's free but there will be registration. We even have "official" Surf N Turf bib numbers!

To encourage participation and to distribute some of the prizes that have been donated to the event we will pull names out of the pool of people registered for the run. This will be RANDOM, not based on finishing times. The top finishers receive bragging rights only. Well, we may come up with something.

Again the idea is to pull random names for prizes and post them on a board after the race. The results of the poker run are posted in similar fashion. This avoids having to get everyone together at the same time to sit through a raffle.

I've also been known to give away smaller "trinkets" to the guys who work their butts off helping with event chores.

If you want to bring something for the give away, we'll certainly take it and appreciate it, but it's not necessary.

Sorry for the long winded answer. But its a good question that is often asked.

P.S.
I should add that we have some very nice and valuable prizes from ARB-USA, Advanced Adapters, Spector Off Road, and others. So start stretching and get ready for an invigorating run/walk on the beach.

It's only 3 miles, I figure Bull and I can walk it in under an hour, even if we stay up all night before drinking Tequila.

Jim,

Thanks for keeping SnT raffle free. Live raffles have to be the biggest time wasters in the planet, up there with listening to a chess game on the radio.

I like how Cal4Wheel does the raffle at Winter fun fest. You get your ticket, go on your trail. When you get back there's a bulletin board with all the winning numbers on it. I'd love Tony would do something like this at Rubithon. There's nothing wrong with ceremonies, giving recognition to who deserves it. But it bores me to death see a t-shirt and a hat being raffled.

Regards

Alvaro

looks like you have a better source than I did and that you have things under control -as always-.
thanks for all the good work!

The first set isn't bad. It's seeing it come from a bin of 30 that sucks out your mortal soul.

Even though I'm wearing my Stihl hat and t-shirt from Deer Valley. Thanks Dan.

Now, that explained why you and some fellows looked so zombie during the Rubithon Raffles while I was editing Yep's Rubithon video.
