My head liner is still in. I just took the glass out. I wrapped it in a inner tube to see if it helps seal up better.

Water is running nicely down my drain tubes but i am just getting a lot of water through the drains. I guess i could drop the end of my drain tubes back into the rockers and spray my sunroof with a hose. See if it all comes out the rockers or if the overflow and get the floor wet.

Got it...that was some else.... maybe your problem was blocked drains and now they are cleared and if you removed the plugs on the rockers you should not have an issue

So you were able to pull the glass without removing the headliner? Did you pull it out from the top?

The threads i read out there are a little confusing about this. I think there are some differences in early and late model 80s. I do know the head lines are different and my early style head liner is one not going to be removed.

On my 1994 i closed the sunroof and worked from the inside. I remover the left and right trim pieces that are right up against the sunroof glass on the inside. These are the ones that break eisily and i think the tan colored ones are discontinued. I popped the back free on both the left and right piece. Then opened the sunroof a few inches and popped the front corners free. Closed the sunroof and the trim came right out. Once the trim is out you will see 6 nuts that hold the glass in. Remove the 6 10mm nuts and the glass comes right out the top. There are some shims around the nut/stud , dont loose them.

RC- On my 93, the sunroof closed better from the back position than from the up position. If I use the UP, when I close it, I put it down, the push the other button to retract it and then move it back forward to the closed position. going down the road with wind noise, you can hear it seal better. That kept out 90% of the water. That said, my sunroof is up today letting the passenger side floor board dry out some.

When i took mine out i cleaned everything up and put the bicycle inner tube around it. you could hear it was much tighter going into the closed position. But i dont know if it was any tighter where it needed to be to stop the leak. It looks really well sealed and there is no more up and down play in the sunroof when closed. I put a garden hose on the roof and was still collecting a good bit of water on the drain tubes. I just hope it is sealing well enough that the drain systems can handle the rain. I doupt it will rain as hard as a garden hose. But sometimes you do get those torrential down poors. I used a little FIPG on the inner tube to help it stay inplace. I iwll give it a few days to cure then i might put the drains back in the rockers and test it all out. I still have allt he carpet out so if it leaks a little no big deal. But i do want it fixed so i can get the interior back in.

Thanks! I have a '93, no leaks that I know of but tons of wind noise. I plan on installing the bicycle tube soon and see if that helps.

I recently attacked this task, I removed the entire diver side of the headliner & was able to remove it with a helper. I left the front window, pillars & passenger side attached. Its not the worst thing to do however its a pain at the rear window rubber & those clips. A few putty knives and a screwdriver and your all over it. Good Luck...

how did u manage to remove the glued headliner and the wrap around that rear window?

looking to do the same if u can help. Thanx

Wow. This looks like a tedious job. I was considering doing the repair but the cost of the glass detured me.
I said the heck with my leaky sunroof from a old, crumbling seal and siliconed a bead around the perimeter of exterior. Leak is gone.

What size inner tube are you guys using?? I found that thread once upon a time, but can't find it again?

Thanks!

I think i used a 26" from my MTB. I think i cut a nice strip and then pulled it on the glass. The glass has a little curve to it. I used a few little dabs of FIPG and then put a few pieces of tap on it to hold it while it dries. Drop it in and snug down the 6 nuts.

Removing the glass is actually really simple. The only tricky part is popping out the trim with out breaking it. Once the two trim parts are out it is just 6 little nuts to remove the glass.

Oh, that's good. How about the headliner? Does it look the same after taking it down?

I didnt. I think that is where the confusion is. All i did was remove two plastic trim pieces, one on each side of the sunroof glass. Then you can remove 6 nuts, 3 on each side of the glass. The glass then removes out the top. But i never removed any of the track or mechanical parts, just the glass.

If you remove the glass on a ‘96, do you have access back in under the roof? Trying to remove the below and am not terribly interested in dropping the entire headliner at this point.
