Thanks, DJ. What has your experience been with clearances? I see that you remade your front fenders. Did you have clearance issues?

These aprons are still bolted to the factory inner fender and the outer tube is welded to those inner fenders from the underside. I was hoping to put some panel adhesive between the seems and move on. I’m ready to drive this thing. Lol.

When I originally built them I gave like a 1/4 inch. My frame and body flexes enough it touched when really articulating. I was mounted on the frame, though. I gave about 1/2 then. New ones are around 1/2 - 5/8 gap, mounted on the body at the front, frame on the back. No rubbing issues.

Thanks for the pictures. Are your aprons bolted to your fender?

No, they float pretty much. Bolted to the cowl and the front clip.

Mine are bolted to the factory holes on the inner fender and to the front clip. Do you have experience with this configuration?

So the stock setup? Sure. It probably wont move too much then.

And then there were two. I’ve even had folks text my phone on this mod. It’s about a 50/50 approval rate. Wait until the tires are on folks. It might look more proportional. Ha! And if it’s not, I’ll change it. The purpose here is to get the mounting area made. I can put anything here later. On to the next part.

Oh, and just an FYI, if you don’t like this, you might want to unsubscribe for a bit because I am getting ready to cut a 7” square in the center of the dash for the radio. It’s just metal folks. I can always put it back later.

BTW, no harm meant. I’m just playing.

Wait a second Are you trying to say this is not a Patina restoration build ?

Advice needed. I am lowering my front shock towers today to accommodate the shorter shocks that were available earlier this year. If I lower the upper mounts by 2.5”, my bump stops can be set to where there is 3/4” of shaft showing at full bump (1/2” of rubber bump +1/4” of additional shaft). With this configuration, the tire will rub the front-outer corner of the fender and it is a 1/2” - 3/4” away from everything else. My experience has been that tire flex will still move that far, causing contact, but I am thinking that this distance with occasional contact might be okay. Thoughts?

I rub in the same area. Again I can not feel when it is doing it. I have since raised my ride height another 1 inch. And also raised the lower shock mounts so my shock will bottom out now . And adding my bump stops . Remember when it articulates for real. Things moves a little more . It will take you a little to get it dialed in after you get it out and using it . You can get close in the garage .
