My distributor boot fell apart many years ago. Way before I ever needed it. As I take my 60 out into the field more and more, one of these days I am going to cross a river deep enough that I might wish I still had it. How important/effective were those things? I have looked under the hood of a lot of Cruisers and no one seems to have them anymore, not even the snorkeled rigs. So they must not be such a big deal.

Toyota no longer makes them. Does anyone else?

SOR has used ones. I think you are OK w/out them.

They're also available spanky new, but are $70 --

that is a good price, considering they were $105 when Toyota used to sell them. where ARE they available? is it a secret?

Oh, duh, now I know what you are talking about. I better keep mine too. I guess it would only help with splashing and the o-ring is the important part.

I have put a DUI dizzy on my truck and if you can wait till I am back in the country in Oct. I will send it to you for a tank of gas....

Seriously
25+shipping.

You can make your own out of polyvinylidene chloride (Saran wrap).

Water proof

I have a few off of 79-93 mustangs that work fairly well. They are rubber and cover the cap and wires well. Let me know if you want one. More splash protection not submersed. Freebee except shipping but it can't be that much.

IIRC, I asked Jim C about this boot when he was rebuilding my dizzy, and he said if you were doing water crossings, off road, ect keep the boot off. He basically said the the stock dizzy is sealed very well, and the boot just traps water, mud, etc in there.

Zack

I ran without that forever. If the plug wires aren't cracked and the breather tube is still attached, you're fine. The boot wasn't the waterproofing anyway, it's the cap and the factory wires having the distributor ends glued on. Water can EASILY get past that stupid boot...

I knew the boot wasn't waterproof. I just thought it kept the splash from hitting it. what WAS the boot for? temperature insulation?

I am running one off a old Ford 302....fits ok

The boot only helps on splashing water.

yup

Chris if you are really wanting one i have one you can have for free. cause otherwise ima throw it away. Its sitting on the 2F in my garage right now. I know you wheel your truck but not very hard, It will help protect from splashing water only not stream crossings. and that sort of thing. I will not be using it as i cross water where the dizy goes under, i run though mud where all it would do is get caked under that boot / cover thing.

im in fort worth and prolly about a 20 min drive from my house to yours assuming 183 or 30 is not backed up. (depending on which way you decide to come) 30 would prolly be faster from where you are at.

i work at NTB off of 183 on the south side of the freeway right before rufe snow if your headed west bound on 183.

just leme know, and ill bring it along to work one day. or you can drop by my place if you would like.
