Hey guys I’m installing my distributor and I’m having some trouble with it not sitting completely down to the clamp. There feels like a 5mm gap is showing.
Iv followed the manual for installing it by getting to TDC on compression and angle the oil gear with the rotor and distributor all pointing correctly but it just won’t go all the way down. Can anyone give me some pointers

This^^ Just went through this myself. Re-check and once it's aligned, it drops right in. The FSM has a description on how to achieve this but I still managed to install one tooth off. Assessing the correct angle is a bit of a challenge.

^^ ^^ double ditto on Jim' comment.

Ok I will keep fiddling with the angle for the pump gear but honestly feel like iv put it the right. I think I will look at the oil pump slit and then see how the dizzy lines up when it’s supposed to sit all the way and then align the oil slit to that angle

One thought came to mind. Maybe there is a burr on the end of the distributor shaft or in the slot on the oil pump? This could make the install more of a challenge. Also, when you drop it in, I found it helps to have the distributor cap off so one can gently wiggle the shaft by the rotor to get the tab to align with the oil pump slot. When it's that close, just go really gently. Hope this helps and keep us posted.

Cheers, James

So iv been having a go at it and im fairly confident that iv been doing everything right.
I had a closer look at the end of the shaft where it slits down into the oil gear and it looks like it’s slightly bent. I believe what’s happening is it’s feeding into the slit but gets stuck halfway because it’s not completely straight and so that’s why I’m able to get it mostly down but have a 1/4 of a fingernail left in travel
