Steve. Look at cumminsforum.com if you haven't ready. I built a 79 chevy crew cab 4x4 dually a while back and found more than i needed there. Cool build I love that motor. Be sure to advance your injector pump timing an 1/8 inch an get an evt gauge for sure.

More iron is always better! Looking sweet. Love the rims. Looking for some 15x10's myself that look just like what you have. Maybe in flat black, not real sure yet what I will find.

I have been lurking over there a bit for info, I put a timing spacer in already so I don't want to bump it anymore than it already is.
I will have to check out your build it sounds pretty sweet.

Yeah I know what you mean. I hunfortunately have been sick the past two days so I havent had the chance to get them mounted up. Maybe tonight or definitely tommorrow I will get around to doing it.

I mustered up the energy to get at least one tire mounted.
I have to admit it took a while to get all of those bolts snugged down for the beadlock.

Here are the tires and rims waiting to get mounted together.

On the truck and looking good :D

I will mount the others up tomorrow afternoon, and hopefully finish up the transfercase crossmember.

Once the crossmember is in and set I can put my new 14 bolt in and get some driveshafts made up.

As noted before, there will be a definite need for some fender trimming.

But it shouldn't be too bad.

I think I will be trimming them and limiting my uptravel with bumpstops to around 5" just as a guesstamate.

Any input on a good amount of uptravel? I need to adjust the shock mounts on the frame anyway with the new axle location.

I also realized I bottomed out one of the rear shocks and smashed the end into the body of the shock. oops.

Half my build is Oops!

Loooove the new tires and wheels. It sucks you have to cut the body, but it will look bad a$$ when you are done. You're getting close now, you must be excited. I can't wait to see it run. What are you going to do first? Run over a smart car?

Hahaha, I love the new wheels and tires too.
I really just want to drive it out of the shop, nothing crazy......then take it back in the woods for some testing:D
There are hills and ruts and mud and fun.

And with the help of a buddy I got it installed:

Its hard to see but its up in there right where I want it to go.
I also decided to get another tire mounted up while I was waiting for the crossmember to cool down.

Hopefully tomorrow I will have some time to get the 14 bolt in and possibly get some tires on it.
Then it should be smooth sailing getting this thing at least moving under its own power.

Are you going to make some type of skid plate setup for the TC ? The pic is a little dark above...is that the engine oil pan in the picture too?

I have 23" from the ground to the bottom of the transfercase, and it is set way back by the spring hangers for the rear springs so I might not need to. but if I find it getting hit a bunch I might make one.

Yeah the picture is pretty dark, but the shadowy thing on the right is the crossmember for the transmission.
The oil pan is not visable.

Looks like progress Stevo.

Yes, it does.
I try to get at lease a couple hours in on it each week. Life has been busy.

I did get the rear axle in though:

My pinion angle adjustment tool:

Perches welded in:

Standing all by itself.

I made the mistake of setting my rear pinion angle before checking availability of driveshafts. Apparently no one makes a 1410 double cardan joint so I will need to put my 1350 flange on the rear output of my transfercase.

It should be plenty strong but if not it will be a semi expensive "fuse" in my drivetrain. Not what I wanted but oh well, things happen.

The midshaft should never blow up being that it has a 1480 joint at the transmission end and a 1410 joint at the t-case.

I am getting quotes for them and should hopefully hear back from them monday.
I also only need to shorten the rear driveshaft from the dodge 2" to use it as the driveshaft for the front.

Did you call Tom Woods? They worked a miracle for me.

There is a great local shop. One very ornery older man + greasy poorly lit shop full of yokes and lathes = pretty great driveshafts

Wow. Very cool work.

Hey thanks, its been a lot of work but tons of fun in the process. It will even more enjoyable once its drivable.

I thought that too. I was at my whits end. I had driven one whole winter without a front drive shaft trying to get one made. I was using Oliver out of North Carolina (?) and they came to the conclusion that they couldn't make what I needed. For some reason, the Tom Woods web site wasn't working with my computer at that time and I just assumed that they couldn't do anything either. A buddy gave me the phone number and told me to call them just as I was struggling to fully wrap my head around a cut and turn. The first person I talked to was Tom Woods himself. In a very calm reasuring manner he told me that it would be no problem to build me somehting that worked, and they did. In the process I talked to one of his guys who was equally smart and he told me all about how, even with a cut and turn, you never put more gear oil in your differential than normal because it causes the oil to foam, and yes, the pinion bearing will still get oil.

Call Stevo and run your needs by them. I don't think you will be sorry.
