Is the tailgate lift height adjustable? I spent some quality time with the owners manual but didn't find anything. I would like to not have to duck under the tailgate - I've hit my head on enough tailgates over the years.

On a separate note, it was rather amazingly difficult to find the tone controls for the stereo on the LX. WTF?
If the hatch is sagging you can replace the struts.
The tailgate has wire cables that set its lowered position. Some have replaced with new. Others have changed the lowered position by shortening the wire cables (handmade new ones usually)

I think he means the lift gate or upper hatch. Some models have adjustments for low, med or high but I am not aware of the LX or LCs having that in the 200 series.

Correct, I meant the upper hatch in the open position.

Bummer, I guess I'll have to keep ducking under it. I'm only 6'3" for chrissakes.

If you haven’t tried replacing the struts, I’d give it a try. I used to think my LX lift gate was fine because it didn’t really seem like it lifted more when I pushed it. But I was always in danger of hitting the lift gate. But after replacing the struts I never have that problem. Of course I’d only explore new struts after the 37s and body lift.

Heh, the struts are fine, the hatch is definitely going all the way up to the end of travel.

That's fine, but like I said. I thought mine were fine as well. But after replacing they lifted another inch or 2. I can't really explain it. I suppose it's possible the Toyota replaced the part and it's a little longer. I'm not sure. I'm not as big as a Big Swede, more the size of a normal Swede (6'2"). The height change definitely went from hit my head every time if I'm not paying attention to never hitting my head.

I've got an intermittent squeal coming from my front brakes that occurs only at low speeds. I know it's the fronts for sure as I just had the rears done ~15K miles ago.

It's not a metal on metal grinding sound/wear clip sound. It really just is a pronounced intermittent squeal. I've recently taken it to my local mechanic and Lexus for unrelated work and they both said I have plenty of pad left in the front.

Any ideas short of taking the wheels off to look? I'm thinking maybe a rock is stuck in the backing shield? Again, it doesn't sound like a bad squeal, just annoying. I also may try re-bedding the brakes to see if that works.

I had this same thing when i first got mine. had the front pads and rotors resurfaced and then the sound came back. Took a while for Toyota to find the source, but there's this little clip in the caliper that became loose and was scraping against the rotor. it's like a $5 dollar part and I can't remember the #, but that might be the issue.

Interesting. Thanks, I'll have to check that out.

Anyone ever mount maxtrax boards transverse to line of travel? Meaning driver to pass ever side vs front to back? I’m considering mounting options with my Yakima mega warrior basket that don’t look ridiculous or are a nonstarter by the boards turning into sails. TIA.

I'm installing OEM roof cross bars for the first time. Do I need to tighten the small star head bolt on side that is adjustable? No tool was provided to do so, so I assume not, but the cover on that side won't stay snapped down. I can turn the weird oval lock and I don't think it will come off but the interior end won't stay snapped down.

I think one of my kids may have put a coin in one of the air vents beside the steering wheel or in the vents by the windshield. I hear something rolling around when taking corners that sounds like a coin. Short of taking the dash off is there any way to see what’s actually causing this and get it out?

boroscope.....?

spelling wrong...

Can the vent be popped out of the dash?

Maybe just ask him?

We did but it’s my wife’s car and I just noticed and it probably happened months ago so who knows?

Will try to remove the vents I didn’t realize you could do that independent of the entire dash

The front facing vents next to the screen just pop out if you remove the padded trim pieces on each side of the console. The driver side may need the trim below the gauges popped up on the right side. The other ones need more pieces removed. The windshield vents are probably a little more difficult to access. A borescope may get in there far enough to see and them a flexible extension with a magnet may be able to get it out.

Check the sun glass holder for any lose objects as well, learned that the hard way…

PS - in the driver seat that appeared to come from the passenger side dashboard, funny how noise travels and how your hearing may not figure the right direction
