There is a dude on YouTube that did a great review/compare on a lot of the products. His channel is called Project Farm and he does really thorough reviews/comparisons of everything you can imagine. He did one on POR15, Rustoleum etc recently.

Thanks, just looked it up. I'll save everyone else the ~12 minutes... POR 15 for the win in all tests (except cost).

Given how much of the PC on my bumper has been compromised I may just paint the whole thing with POR 15 for now. So... should I get some POR 15 semi-gloss top coat, paint with POR15 and clearcoat with Rustoleum (I have a can already), or just paint it with POR 15 and leave it uncoated?

The Project Farm guy seems to generally do a good job on the review content, but definitely isn't a dynamic presenter :). I don't always agree with all the tests he uses to compare the products he tests, but I do think he is pretty unbiased.

He is definitely an acquired taste. I just like the fact that his tests often covers days/weeks/months to capture more realistic results. I like that his reviews tends to be completely free of opinions, aside from the occasional "Was surprised by..." which is usually a good indicator that he is relying on empirical evidence to inform his opinions and that they are open to being changed by that evidence.

Pull up the Parking Brake and DVD Player controls should become "active" as well as let you watch the movie

There is a thread on here where somebody tricked the vehicle into thinking the Parking Brake was up all the time, thus letting front passengers watch movie while truck is running :meh:
Search for in youtube on how to disable video in motion for landcruiser. you will find a video on what wires you need to join or remove.

The basic POR-15 is not UV stable, and it will turn to a dull, chalky finish quickly if not top coated.

Thanks. Ok good to know.

Is this stuff the flattest top coat option? Any opinions about brush-on (would be easier for me) vs spray-on?

Does the tailgate switch light up when you press it to open and close the tailgate? I have a 2013 LX 570 and it doesn’t on my vehicle so just checking with you guys.

My stupid question for today: Where is that damned beeper that makes such a racket every time I open or close the lift gate?!? Seems much louder late at night in a campground. (I know... but it was a group of us with 52 of the same brand squaredrop trailers.)

Thanks!

Super annoying. I am going to test out the Carista app with a bluetooth OBD connector. Looks like the settings for the door chimes can be turned off.

Also, if you go into your Vehicle Info button on the radio display, you can turn the volume down for the lock/unlock, not sure if that is the same setting for the lift gate and leaving the truck with the key when the engine is running horn.

Not sure if you are talking about the button on the rear hatch, but mine lights up when the lid is open. 2021 LC.

I have Carista, and have made several changes. The lift gate beeper is not one of the available options to change. :(

Do you have any sense of where the sound is coming from (under hood, under dash near cluster, etc.)? If you can find the offending speaker, you could unplug it or put a screw through it (like some people do with the speaker in the cluster for other reasons). If it is the alarm speaker, that is along the inside of the US passenger fender in the engine compartment under the hood, and is easy to unplug.

Dangit!!!! I was really hoping it was. Thanks for the info, I may still try it since I want to turn off the annoying "key left the car" beeps as well.

The liftgate beep? My hearing is horrible, so difficult to localize. It sounds like inside the lift gate or maybe in behind the taillights or under the rear somewhere.

Gotcha. If it was me, and it bugged me, I'd dig out the tools and start removing interior trim until I found it. If that's not your thing, you may be more limited in your options.

I'm looking for a more "robust" way to mount some electronics to the dash (2013 lc). Currently have some plastic RAM track (Shop RAM® Tough-Track™ End Loading Composite | RAM® Mounts - https://www.rammount.com/shop-all/ram-tough-track/end-loading-composite) "3m taped" to the right side of the screen (A in the photo). It works, but there is some vibration/shaking; and reading another post here, now the concern of cracking the fascia is creeping into my head.

Was watching a dash disassembly video and am thinking about constructing a bracket/mount that would attach via the nav assembly screws that are under the center speaker grill (B in the photo)

Looking for input/eng POV -- like: is this a bad idea? Is that mounting point able to support a bracket w/ a phone/tablet attached to it? Anyone tried this before?

thanks!

I installed a RAM poly track to the speaker grill as shown in the photos attached (taken from another MUD member). This supports an I phone on a RAM Xgrip and a Garmin Overlander GPS while offroading. The GPS does shake a bit and could stand to have some more support but it will not fail. Just another option to consider.

I did this as well (based on your earlier post) and I approve of this solution. My ram mount ends up with my phone sitting above hte vent but the edge rests on my dash so it doesn't vibrate. There's plenty of track to add another phone mount and a GoPro mount, possibly a 4th mount too. I'm quite pleased.
