Hi all. I am trying to purchase some escape gear seat covers for a 2021 Heritage that has not arrived yet. Escape Gear wants pictures (I sent them some from a 2020) and they want to know if I have a Land Cruiser GX or VX. I have no idea!
My SQOD is; are the US spec Land Cruiser Heritage Editions GX or VX???

Thanks in advance.

My stupid question of the day.

I just got a 2013 LC and it needs tires. The ones on them now are road tires, and am looking to replace them with all terrains. So...do I buy 4, or 5 and have the 5th one mounted on the spare rim?

Thanks!!
Jay

5 best, of course.
-Might help to remember that if you rotate your spare with the rest, it’s not wasted money at all. 5 tire rotation might cost for the extra tire $ up front, but you’ll get a proportional set-life increase if you just rotate it in.

US spec are VX (VX-R actually). They want pictures to make they get you the correct ones. I had to send them pictures as well.

you can go to the toyota owners website and put in the VIN. Should say VX-R. For some reason the 2020's I tried do not say VX-R, but here is an example of a random 2019. Interestingly my 2013 says VX not VX-R.

Thanks! That's what I thought but when I search the web for Land Cruiser VX-R this is the first image I get so I wanted to be sure.

Just an aside— I just had the opportunity to see @sdnative ‘s escape gear seat covers in person a couple weeks ago and was really impressed with their fit & finish. So whatever he did to order correctly definitely worked out well.

@Markuson

@Noracenumber

I actually ordered through Equipt, a US distributor. I wanted stateside support in case there were any issues. Great customer service, highly recommended.

Dumb question of the day.. since barely anyone makes LX570 bits in aus.. I'm trying to find a decent skid/bash plate/underbody armour for my '17 model.

ARB do make 1 but don't sell it in Australia as it's made in the USA and costs them too much to bring in..

Iron4x4 don't list 1 for LX570 on their website (but could be because I'm in Aus.. again)..

Google does the usual, shows me underbody stuff but then the websites tell me nothing available for my car and selecting LC200 may well not work as they don't run the 3UR here and unsure how "universal" bash plates are.

Open to any suggestions or direct links to the items as if I can at least get a part number for certain brands (ironman 4x4 is one) then I can get a local offroad store to potentially see if they can order them in.. Also being a newbie in this regard.. are all bash plates created equal? or is there a big difference in brands? Weight/strength/etc..

Rival 4x4. I have the fuel skid and based on that think you’ll like the others. FYI the lx570 will take the same skids as the tlc 200. There are many many choices.

Ah k so the engine doesn't matter? wasn't sure about things such as sump clearance/etc between the diesel and petrol engines..

Worst case the oil drain access hole (if there is one) won’t line up. As far as I can tell the bolt holes are all the same.

Has anyone ever known of these Titan Trail Trekker aux fuel tanks that sit behind the bumper mounted spare? I'm not getting one, but I had never seen or heard of these before today.

Isn't this the reason why no one drives a Pinto anymore?!

Fairly recent idea on the market, and that's probably the biggest reason you don't see many of them. I agree that there is some risk with this type of fuel storage, but I don't think it's any more risk than a few Scepter or similar cans strapped to a bumper carrier. However, I don't like that the tire gets mounted further outboard (more leverage) to mount this style tank. I like having the tire on one swingout, and the fuel on another to spread the load more. That only works with a dual swing bumper obviously...

Best (but far from cheapest) solution IMO is a second tank mounted underneath in the OEM spare position.

New LC owner (2015) and trying to get to know its quirks. So far one oddity. After driving up hill (~4 miles paved road) the right front wheel well is hot. No real smell, just hotter than expected and hotter than the left wheel well. Nothing of note when driving, no vibration, no odd noise (that I hear). I have popped the hood but nothing obvious. I do not notice the same on the return trip home. So oddity or normal and if normal what might it be?

To follow up on my own post. I did some more checking and consulted with my shop. In the end we determined that there is nothing of concern. The extra heat is more from the engine warming up than anything else.

My next SQOD, I have been looking at new tires for my rig. I found this interesting for the Michelin LX A/T2. Looking at the narrower 275/65/R18 (thread width 8.4") or 275/70/R18 (thread width 9.0") but then also looked at 285/65/R18 (thread width 9.1"). What surprised me is that the 275/70/R18 and the 285/65/R18 have basically the same thread width. I would not have expected that. Also the 275/70/R18 is 4 lbs heavier and has 2.5/32 less thread depth than the 285/65/R18. The 275/70/R18 seems like an odd tire in that size.

Any tips for baseline maintenance? Just got a new to me 2016 with 90k miles. Are the Heater Tee's a concern as on the 100? Recommended lube points? Any tips on replacing brakes pads? Pad recommendations?

SQOOD are the wheel nuts from the LX570 the same as used on the LC200 18" wheels? Both are shanked from what I can see.. Just hoping that if I throw my 18" 2015 LC200's on I don't need to go get new nuts.. they seem to fit just fine eye balling it when I put them all on and sit flush/snug...

Yes.
