New 2011 owner here. The truck has power-folding side mirrors operated with the button next to the mirror positioning switches. However, I can't find any info on an option to have the mirrors fold/unfold upon lock/unlock. I'm guessing it's just not possible, but perhaps I simply missed it in the settings?

That’s a feature in the LX, not the LC. The way to mimic it is to push the button when you park, shut the LC off, and push it again. When you start the vehicle, it will sense the switch position and open the mirrors “automatically”.

Ah - got it. Doubt I'll make a habit of that, but good to know that pushing after shutoff will automatically open them. Seems like a pretty minuscule feature to nix from the LC if they already had it programmed for the LX – can't imagine too many folks leaving Toyota for Lexus over that, haha.

I needed a hammer today and realized I didn't have one packed. My original thinking was I could use the back of my ax if I ever needed but that would have been too large for my needs today. A friend happened to have a small claw hammer that fit into the tight space. My preferred hammers are the dead blow, 3-4 lb club, and the claw hammer but carrying three different ones is overkill and each one has limited uses. Maybe carrying a hammer doesn't make sense.

What type of hammer do you carry every day in your vehicle?

This Fiskars IscoCore Club Hammer seems like it could be useful and nice to have on hand but I don't know exactly what I would need it for other than to go with my modern caveman costume.

I’ve got a 18” tomahawk with a hammer/blade and wood handle. I also have a folding saw. So it could get short if need be. But tight quarters it won’t do. Has a 2+ lb head.

That's what wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, etc are for... lol

LOL, true. Plus with that a giant roll of duck tape I carry I could make any tool.

So dedicated hammer not needed is what I'm hearing.

If I need to rap something on my truck I generally reach for a ball peen hammer. Don’t really know why that’s the choice but reading this made me realize that’s what I use. Guess that means one might come in handy in the on board tool roll.
Edit. I’ve got a super hard rubber mallet in the camp gear box for other duties.

I keep a dead blow if I really need it, otherwise make a hammer for the lighter duty work

Ok, 08 LC here. I bought a Lightening to Aux cable in hopes of being able to play music from my phone. Plug everything up, hit CD/AUX and nothing.

Am I doing something wrong or does AUX only work with an iPod? thanks in advance.

Aux is the 3.5mm plug. Is that what you are talking about? It should work. I don't think the USB will work with the newer iPhones.

I think that may be a setting for the LC in Carista. I'll check when I get home.

Looking to pick up an assortment of Nuts/Bolts/Washers to have on hand in the garage as well as on the trail. Not sure what grade to look for, but I found this package of Grade 8.8 Hex: 2610 PIECE METRIC CLASS 8.8 COARSE THREAD HARDWARE ONLY

Any thoughts on if it would have both the variety and grade that would be of use?

Most automotive hardware is fine thread. That kit would work if you are using only hardware from it (i.e. nuts and bolts), but if you are wanting to be able to integrate with factory hardware I'd find a fine thread kit.

Good catch. Thanks. Assuming grade 8.8 is appropriate though?

100% depends on what you're using it for, but for most places you'd need hardware other than OEM it's probably just fine (thinking drawer builds, interior goodie mounts, etc.). Use your judgement though - if it's a high stress/high consequence application you might look at higher strength hardware.

Besides needing fine thread, try to find a kit that is JIS (Japanese Industry Standard). I believe all Asian vehicles adhere to this spec. It will mean that the thread pitch will match, plus all the bolts will have the same head sizes. M10 will be 14mm, M8 will be 12mm, M6 will be 10mm.

Thanks for that detail. I'm seriously considering buying in bulk and selling packages for all the various Yota 4x4 platforms. Gotta be a market for a platform specific nuts/bolts/washers kit for off-roading.

@TheGrrrrr ^^^^ This, otherwise you would need a 12mm wrench/socket for 8mm OEM bolts, and 13mm to loosen/tighten the newly sourced 8mm bolts/nuts, etc.

Check out your local hardware store. Much to my surprise, my local hardware store has a shelf full of trays of JIS bolts.
