I'm pretty sure Patty has Rough Country lift springs. Also, pretty sure the previous owner spec'ed Heavies - or Heaviests. Even with the bed on, the shackles are vertical and, at 180 lbs, jumping up and down on the bed barely moves the suspension. Time for an upgrade.

I was (still am?) planning on OME Mediums - something around 2"-3". But it appears I'm a decade late - most online venders start at 1986- .

Any suggestions for a source? I thought this would be the easy part. Thanks!

She's a bit tall too.

Interesting, 2wd grille and no track bar on the front axle housing. Conversion? :hmm: If so springs for a factory-built truck may not work.

Hmmm…

It is there! Hidden well from the other angle. It kinda looks like it may have been raised to compensate for the lift. Do you have any closeups?

Maybe not.

I’ll admit, I looked closer at that first pic and thought “uhhh… where is it?” and went to the garage.

Also, yeah - I swapped the grilles.

@brettk it looks like the options are:
  • Stock/Light Duty Kit 2"- 2.5" Lift
  • Heavy Duty Kit 2"- 2.5" Lift
Definitely going with the Stock/Light Duty. Did OME ever have three options? or are the Light Duty springs really the Mediums?

The goal in swapping the suspension is two-fold:
1. The ride; imagine replacing your leaf pack with a curved I-beam - that's the current ride.
2. The height; I'd like to bring the truck down a bit - more so in the rear. It's hard to tell how much lift over stock the truck has. It seems like 4" or more... but with the non-factory bed, it's hard to gauge. What do you guys think. Those are 33s.

I misspoke, it was the light duty kit. It was still higher than I liked. I don’t have any recent pictures, but this was right after putting the light duty springs on.

Torsion bars were on back order, that’s why there’s a stinkbug look. To get it back to stockish height, I removed 2 leafs I believe. Once I got the new tbars in, I adjusted them softer than they needed to be. It’s no Lexus by any means, but the ride is fairly smooth. You should be able to get away with removing a leaf spring on every side since you don’t have tbars.

Keep in mind the OME springs settle. They will start out higher than they will end up.

My OME kit never settled. I even filled a pool with water in the back of the truck and left it there for months and all that weight never made a difference.
I ended up having to remove the OME lift in mine when I moved up to 35 tires. I went with a higher lift to keep the 35s out of the fenders and corner of the cab. Now my truck is too tall for my taste.
Up next for me will be custom 4 link front and back with my axle moved up about 1 to 2 inches so I can lower the truck, keep the 35” tires and stay out of the fenders and cab.

Funny. I installed the OME springs to take lift OUT of the truck. My needs changed, and I didn't need 5" any more. Plus, I'm getting too farting old to climb up into that truck.

I don’t mind the getting in and out part for now. It is the look and high center of gravity that bother me. My truck is pretty stable with the wider axles but still I think it would look so much better 2-3 inches lower which is where it was with the old man emu lift.

Cruiser Outfitters X eleventeen!

This OME light up front (33's), I always felt like an inch lower ride height would have been good, but wasn't willing to give up an inch of up-travel to get it.
Don't let the Pre-Runer fenders throw you off.:

Patch had 63's under the rear using a WFO mount kit and shackles.
