I just installed this unit in my cruiser and it will go right to the backup camera display before the system has fully loaded.

Okay great. Did you wire it so that it has constant power if incase you want to use the camera even when the car isnt in reverse?

Nope I tapped into the reverse lights.. No scotch locks I cut and soldered with marine heat shrink ;>)

New firmware update no longer requires selecting the "ok" in the safety warning screen. It times out and moves on.

Having had it for a while... I like the physical look of the system, but find that for the price it is pretty under-featured for audio adjustment. I need to check out my friends Pioneer with Android Auto and compare.

I'm debating between the Sony XAV-AX100 and the Pioneer AVH-2330NEX/AVH-2440NEX. I love the physical volume control on the Sony but would like the illumination and features of the Pioneer.

Having just gotten the Sony installed last month, I must say I really, really appreciate the volume dial. I don't need much in terms of features, so this wasn't much of a struggle for me, but do heavily consider how much you will use those other features versus the daily/constant use of the volume controls. I love being able to rest my wrist on the shifter and adjust the dial.

Sorry to hikack, but what do you have attached to the BHicks dash phone mount. That doesn’t look like what came with mine. Mine was a clamp style.

The ball and socket connection used between the dash mount and the phone holder was a relatively standard size (about 5/8”), so I was able to swap the clamp-style holder for the magnet I already had. I much prefer the minimalist look and functionality of it.

you people and your knobs :) Join the 21st century and add steering wheel controls. This fit pretty well on my 97 in the nook where the cruise control is.

Can I see a pic of that? My steering wheel doesn’t have an airbag, let alone controls!

Subscribing to this thread as I just purchased this Sony HU for the 4runner. If I like it well enough, I'll get another one for the 80 and follow the instructions here for the camera, firmware, etc.

What's the main purpose of the USB, besides firmware upgrading? Also, for connecting music or recharging phones?

As an iPhone user, it enables Apple CarPlay, which I admit is nicer than I imagined! At least at this point, Apple CarPlay only works via the USB, not via Bluetooth.

Ok, this is GREAT info as my friend has an Iphone and she'd REALLY like a BT connection to activate CarPlay. Thanks.

Me too :)

I stand corrected. This unit doesn't support wireless CarPlay, but it looks like it does exist.

Which unit do you have for the xav-100? Looks like there are 3 different versions out there...one with a USB port under the volume knob, one with seek left/right buttons under the volume knob instead of the USB port, and then another one with a CD/DVD slot which also has the seek buttons.

I have the non CD/DVD version with the seek buttons waiting to be installed and was under the impression that it had Bluetooth capabilities. I’ll be pissed if this thing requires an iPhone cord!

I bought the same unit as you, non CD/DVD version!

I have the one with the USB slot under the volume knob. It's capable of connecting via bluetooth, but just not capable of Apple CarPlay via bluetooth. It functions via bluetooth wonderfully for both music and calls, but you just don't get the fancy CarPlay interface unless you plug in via USB.
