Someone stole the catalytic converter from my parked 1997 Lancruiser 80... WTF?! What do I do now?

If you're on a budget, look at the Walker brand.

Check with @slow95z to see if he'll ship you anything from GA. He can put it in a box so no one will know......

Otherwise, Magnaflow. I did a complete parts list in one of the threads for everything you need.

I picked up a complete rust free low mileage exhaust system for next to nothing,
they can be found if you look around. Probably need to look in States that don't have emissions police, or from someone parting out a vehicle.

WOW We to live in Denver It sounds like this is a real problem . Yes those cordless tools use to be a contractor tool thing. Sorry to hear about this type of behavior. We had to replace ours many years ago, age/mileage/chlor mag it was expensive, 4k if I remember right. The Emissions thing in Denver or Colorado is real problem. Cars are unsafe, cracked windshields, bad tires, broken lights, etc since the state is more concern for the environment. The safety program was much better.
They really do inspect for muffler catalytic converter. I did learn and appreciate one thing on the last inspection. The gas cap did not seal properly. Installed new O-ring on cap,10-15$. If your vehicle is older and it does not "click" well. Replace cap or O-ring to save some hassle.
We went with a OEM converter but did not have to replace the O2 wiring etc..That would be a real drag and expense.
We are getting to the point that have to have cameras everywhere, Orson Wells.
First thing the police ask now is do you have video.

Thanks for posting this information i8hmud community.

Scott at AA Performance on Broadway can fix you up.

I'm doing a motor swap in mine. I live in Westminster.
If you're on a budget i'll sell them both to you for 50 bucks.
I'd let you have them, but my wife got let go from her job Monday (thanks to Covid-19) so I could use the cash.

+1 for MagnaFlow. I bought a universal MagnaFlow cat for less than $60 as an "open box" special on Amazon and welded it on, though this was for a different car (not LC). Just saying you don't need to break the bank.

I feel for you. I just bought a 94 that some enterprising individual did the same thing to. Had to replace both down pipes, converters and y pipe. Which jumped the initial price up quite a bit. I got the cats from I think superior exhaust out of Canada. Anyway. Good luck!

Just saw this, will send you a PM tomorrow morning. Thanks!

I think I forgot to include the nuts and gaskets for the O2 sensors also.

Make sure you don't need to get the CA version of Magnaflow (the one I have listed is NOT CA certified) since you have to do emissions.

You are the man! Thank you. I believe in CO we aren’t as strict, seeing a lot of “49 state emissions” car stuff. Thanks again! Gonna get o2 sensors off a 94 that’s at Yota yard, prob get magnaflow cat, and then have a place weld up for me. Did you install 2 cats? Front and back? Will I need to do that since it came stock with 2 or can I replace with single cat? Thanks again.

Also, I coated all of it with Hi-Heat (1000'F) clear coat paint prior to installing to help it all last longer. Because what was removed is all 409SS and what was installed is aluminized steel (CHEAP).

Fitment was about 8 hours start to finish, and I felt things went well, but I had ALL my parts for MONTHS ahead of time, and I ordered EVERY bolt, nut, gasket that I even THOUGHT I might need. I alo regularly soaked things with PB Blaster and I put it all back together with COPPER anti-seize.

Now that's the right way to do an exhaust system, spend the money and get quilty parts so it's done right the first time!

O2 sensors for 94 are different than 95-97 I believe. Wit's end has been able to make mods to the 95-97 to fit 94.

You NEED to get the right ones. Check the Partsouq or McGeorge websites to confirm P/Ns

My condolences, I had some lowlife steal the catalytic converter out from under my 2nd generation Prius when I moved out here. It was parked right out on the street in a well-lit and "safe" area of our quiet little beach town. I fired it up to go to the office one morning and it sounded like a Harley. Really ****ed my week up, I tell you what.

Apparently the Prius cats are highly valued by thieves because they have a lot more palladium (or something) than most vehicles. On top of that the insurance and muffler shop agreed there were no California-legal aftermarket replacements, so they paid for the genuine Toyota cat. Parts and labor cost well over $2500. My deductible on that policy was $250, but still, I basically had some piece of s*** pull $250 out of my pocket when I was still reeling from the costs and headaches associated with moving cross-country.

On the bright side, a bunch of gay homeless men didn’t borrow it for an orgy.

You will need to replace both cats or you will fail inspection. You may get lucky and get by with only one but they may catch you if they’re paying any attention

Rock auto has bolt in cats if you still have the flanges intact. My luck with Magnaflow was not good but Walker ones have been great in other applications
