I still haven’t started, it’s probably not getting done honestly

Not sure the beach girl is ready for mountains

I was talking with Tim on Saturday about the event and might as well put it out here. If anyone knows someone who wants to come, my spot MAY BE available. The VA scheduled me for surgery on the 24th. Nothing serious, just a septum rebuild. Anyone who has dealt with them knows that you gotta take it when you can get it. I am going to talk with the doctor and let them decide if a week is enough healing time before sucking in all the dust. I haven't tossed in the towel yet because I still want to see the SAS Family, even if I am walking around in a nose diaper.

Sorry if I missed it, but, do I need any sort of OHV pass for this trip? Thanks.

These are public access so your regular State Registration is all that's required

Not surprised by the Black Bear news. Sheriff's historical statements just about guarantee it'll be the last one to get dozer love. No work in Poughkeepsie either...that could make for some excellent wheeling and scenery.

I didn't see a report on Imogen, either way there is a lot of stuff to do besides trails everyday.
Three of us did the Via Ferrata Ouray last year. It was a blast. Soaked up the Hot Springs right after.
Enjoy your vacation in the San Juans. I know I do each year.

On FB both Ouray County Road & Bridge and Bushducks are reporting that Imogene is currently being worked on from the Ouray side and is cleared almost to the pass. I haven’t seen anything about the Telluride side.

This will be my first experience with these passes. Are these roads used for transportation in the summer, or are they recreation only?

Yes. A few of them would be decent cut-throughs if not for the traffic - Ophir and Imogene especially.

Had to replace passenger side (R) mirror. Broke it last Saturday going up a very narrow and sketchy trail in the Eastern Sierra. Usually not a bad trail, capable driver and rig and generally no issues. Trail has now been made much more difficult than in the past due to this year’s extreme snow…and now snow melt.

Once you start up this trail you go from 8K elevation to 11+K in maybe 8-9 miles. 4 low the entire way and lockers at times. There’s cabins at the top which was our lunch destination. We got to within 0.1 GPS miles from the cabins & were stopped by a huge snow bank that was still in the shade. Absolutely NO place to turn around. Narrow, sketchy and major league drop off .

No choice but to back down this shelf road to a wide spot we remembered about 1.5 miles behind us. 3 vehicles, the one behind did not get out of their vehicle and spotted the vehicle in front of them via our Ham radio. A day to remember for sure. No pictures as we were a bit busy.

I will do NO MORE wheeling between now and SAS leave time. (I’m not as crazy as I look you know.)🤔

Pictures of the replacement mirror from a 70 series. Thank you @cruiseroutfit. Ordered on Wednesday, arrived today.👍

Thank you!!

So, what do we do if the pass is only open 1/2 way. Go to top and turn around? This will be my first time in the area and would like to see as much as possible. I know natural melt can take a while so I may miss Black Bear. I can always hang around camp and drink with new friends!

Any request for East Coast Beer? I have been known to bootleg a little. :)

Hopefully it opens up. That's the one I was looking forward to the most

There will be plenty of options for trails. Still 3 weeks out so things will change.
I can assure you the experience will be memorable even if the most popular trails are still impassable.
I'll be leading several trails as will several other veterans. Rest assured there will be trails...
